You knew the toy to be bad, but you got it anyway because of the character's portrayal in comics or the cartoon. Or perhaps its a homage to another character that you liked.

For me, it was G1 Carnivac. I don't really think of him as particularly bad, but Pretenders tend to be considered bad in the fandom.

I also brought several Animated toys simply because I enjoyed the character on the TV show, if I was deciding on the toys own merits, I wouldn't have gotten that many.

 

Well I haven't opened her yet, but I knew my son wanted an Airarachnid. He is almost 5 and I'm sure he will just leave her in helicopter mode.

 

G1 Galvatron. I love the character and the design, the toy looks way different than his animated counterpart.

 

Prime Knock Out. Totally could have lived without the toy, but his character on the show is one of the few things I actually like about Prime's cartoon and I needed another medic for my Decepticons. Scalpel just doesn't cut it.

I also guess Soundwave would qualify here, but personally I think he's actually pretty good for a guy with 2-D arms.

I really, REALLY liked Airachnid's character on the show; especially her interactions with Arcee. However, we all know how horrible her toy is... Still, I bought it and have zero regrets.

 

G1 BLASTER, that toy is SOOO BAD. I'm kind of glad I didn't pay the extra money to get one in good condition and just got a loose slightly damaged one.
If he sill had all his diaclone functionality he would be more justified in his badness. But the transformers version just sucks even if it is very show accurate.

 

Definitely Airachnid.

One of the few G1 figures I've gotten rid of for this reason.

I also ditched most my Beast Wars a year ago since it's really the show that was great, not so much for the vast majority of the toys.

 

I have found myself less then enthusiastic about G1 toys since repurchasing most from my childhood.

There are some that stand out though like Omega Supreme , Predaking , Insecticons and Soundwave. Classics is where it is at for me.

I buy whatever is G1 Classics related so I guess I like all of the characters.

haay!! the thread asked if "i" have bought any toys that were crap just because i like the character. so i sed what i did. soundwaves hips and knees are super loose out of the package sometimes making him difficult to stand. secondly, his arm (either one) wont stay horizontal if u want to attach lazerbeak to it like hes perched. do u kno why? cuz they used ball and socket joints for almost jointed place on the toy. and i wont even get started about his size for pete's sake...redonkulous! so dats how he is a bad toy in my opinion. heck, if they couldve made him bigger, id prolly like him more. but overall i just didnt care for the look of him. but he IS soundwave. and i gotta catch em all...and stuff

 

Alternators Optimus Prime.
He's fiddly, loose and misproportioned... but he's an Alternator and an Optimus Prime. Just wish his shoulders/bumper would stay on.

FOC Jazz. Jazz is one of my favorite characters and I really wanted to like the figure, but I can't.

 

GDO Springer. The legs and feet on him are horrible.

 

I got Deluxe Airarachnid because I like the character on the show and I had not read any of the reviews of the figure. I guess I had been riding a wave of luck because while every toy I've purchased for my collection might not have been perfect there were things to like. Airarachnid is just so horrible I'll be more careful about future purchases.

I think I purchased a few stinkers back in the Beast Wars days. It was an odd line with some figures looking just like their cartoon counterparts while some figures looked nothing like the show characters in robot mode.

 

None. If I don't like how the figure is engineered, or if it looks bad (or both), I won't buy it.
