They didn't waste it. They used it on the movie immeditately after his death. It would have felt awkward in this movie anyway, as the logos came after the first scene... so the movie would start with
    the death of Hawkeye's family
and then transitioned into a Stan Lee tribute.

Don't watch this scene, cause spoilers. But the scene is really only 20 seconds long.
Also, someone came to the recuse.

There may be ways out of it.....
Tony could have made a backup of his mind (happened in the comics) then they clone him a new body (happened in the comics) They could just find a way to deage Steve (happened in the comics) likely they would use it to introduce new actors though.
The Winter Solider/ Falcon series will likely be about who will wield the shield
Vision Scarlet Witch will likely be a flash back
I still think there are ways Loki could have faked his death.
Hawkeye will be about him training his replacement and trying to do right by the Black Widow.

Throwing this out here for those interested (but mostly i just wanted to thresh it out into writing)

For those trying to work out the mechanics of time travel in the mcu, consider this: in the mcu time travel does not work as loop - this is explicitly called out when stark basically says bttf is bs.

(While bttf uses parallel timelines, bttf -similar to arrival and interstellar espouses time as a loop i.e. you cant change events, and the past informs the future n vice versa)

With the mcu, tampering with time creates divergent timelines (which to be fair bttf touches upon) i.e. changing the past doesnt change the future. So if they go back n kill thanos, the state of the universe when they come back is still the same (because time only moves forward even if you travel back). For instance past thanos who travelled into the future dying in the future did not stop the original snap from happening in the current time.

Now they did vow to return the stones but mostly to not upset those timeline. But i think returning (almost) all the gems created a divergent timeline - with the exception of tesseract in the 70s.
The mind stone ownership affects age of ultron.
The aether gem affected the dark world. Not to mention loki running of with the tesseract.
The power stone affected GOTG movie.
The time stone affects the dr strange movie (tildas character realize itd be a mistake to train stephen).
And the infinity war doesnt happen because thanos doesnt get the soul stone.

    Time heist!

The way it was worded, the stones had to be returned so that they could be used to fight against evil in the timeline that they were being taken from. I suppose that's true of the Space, Time and maybe Power Stones... but to me it seems removing the Soul, Reality and Mind Stones would have been a net positive for the the timelines they came from!

    On women representation:

Mcu doesnt mess around in showing women can be powerful. Right of the bat stark thinks hes seeing the light...its just carol lol. Theres her baravado in going after thanos. And she was the cavalry in the final fight - Crowd went nuts when the girls got together. Took a punch from thanos like nothing even though he outmanoeuvred her in the end - only reason they dont let her win it is so that she doesnt steal the avengers shine to be honest.

It was weird, I thought the movie was all about checking the boxes rather than telling a coherent story. Like, ''he needs to say that, fans want it'', ''he needs to meet this person or see that person'', or like the certain teamup in the final battle with Captain Marvel. Things were happening because screenwriters needed them to happen, not because they happen organically. I felt the same in the final battle when they needed to make the strongest characters busy so that the focus could be on the main 6. Like how
Strange needed to hold the dam.... where did that even come from? why?
And the editing was so off oh my god. I knew the things that were going to happen so I was prepared but i feel like they didn't hit the right notes? So any of the emotional stuff didn't really hit me like i didnt cry 5 times like most people, and I am an easy crier. The best emotional beat was Scott
    meeting his older daughter.
Like that portion of the movie was so good, so did the convo with Cap and Nat. But as soon as they figured out the main plan in 3 minutes, it just crumbled. And it never pick up for me. And that's not even about what happens to some characters. lol That's another conversation.

    So.... is there
a 2012 version of Loki now running around unbridled with the tesseract?
    And
    what happened to 2014 Gamora?

    Yes, that timeline is fucked.
    2.
We don't know. Last time we saw her she was with Nebula and Quill, not really interested in him. I guess she ran off.

She supposedly ran off after the final fight was over. At the end when Thor comes on board the Milano, Petter is looking for her on the ship's screen but can't locate her. This probably sets the plot for Vol. 3 I guess.

It doesn't need any credits scenes. They clearly state what's to come for the characters in the movie itself.

Got out from seeing it a couple of hours ago...

    Loved it.

Even though I knew the plot outline, and every major spoiler going in, watching it play out on screen was still a helluva blast! Of course there were small niggles here and there, but the spectacle & emotional punch totally overpowered the rushed pace and minor plot holes for me.
