It's definitely worth celebrating when a shallow, painfully derivative, exploitative glorified tech demo manages to make more money than far better films out there and in turn further inflating the ego of a man with an already exceedingly large view of himself.

Because that's all movies should aspire to be, right? Why waste time slaving over a script in an effort to make it as great as you can when you can just dazzle the audience with visuals that turns their brains to something reminiscent of mush and they'll sing your praises anyways?? What a truly envious position it is to produce the CGI equivalent of McDonalds and find success.

Critics are dumb and stinky and just can't have fun.

It really is insultingly hilarious how the single biggest complaint about Avatar the past 13 years was that it didn’t have a good original story, like that’s the other thing people know about Avatar besides the visuals. And Cameron didn’t listen to that criticism at ALL and still gave us almost absolutely nothing in the story and character department.

In A Bug’s Life, Hopper has a quote: “You little termites! I gave you a second chance, AND THIS IS ALL I GET?!?”

It’s incredible. The stubborn refusal to do anything but the bare minimum even after years of criticism is astonishing.

I truly hope the VFX artists are getting SOME decent pay for these movies.

This is only marginally less depressing than when DOTM broke into the top 10.

I went to this. My daughter wanted to go, no one else did. So I did the dad thing and went.

Objectively it’s…good? But it’s an entirely empty feeling movie. But it’s good. It’s so hard to explain. It’s another reminder that even if I don’t care about the material (Titanic) it’s hard to deny that Cameron can make a well crafted film. It’s not a surprise that this thing will eventually break 2 billion. And he’s going to make a third one and we’re all going to go and put this thing over the three billion mark.

My daughter enjoyed it. That’s enough. I got a nice afternoon out with her, watched a movie that was objectively good, and got to bond over popcorn.

Who was it that was in denial in here about Cameron needing 2 billion to break even?

Of course the evil Navi are related to fire, how completely original.

I'm looking forward to it being revealed Jake is secretly the reincarnation of the previously thought extinct Air Navi (because he conquered the big sky pterodactyl) and can master all four elements in the 4th film.

I watched this with the girlfriend Sunday night, we both really enjoyed it. The special effects were amazing, the overall story was better than expected. I loved the character development, all though it seemed a little less developmental than the first film, with so many chacters being focused on, but thats ok.

I really like the direction they are taking, it seems to be cycling through the elements, and if fire is up next, that would be a very cool film visually.

I was kinda dissapointed they brought back the same bad guy from the first one, as I guess they can just keep putting your memories in new bodies? That deminishes the impact of being killed.

I cant wait to go see it again, we saw the regular viewing. Id like to go see it in 3D.

Okay but if anybody can pull off “I have all the power in the WORLD!!!” besides Mark Hamill, it might just be Stephen Lang. Not that Daniel Dae Kim doesn’t have a shot, but Lang knows he’s playing a cartoon villain and is owning it already.

    Saw it.

    I liked the crab mechs.

If he's so big on protecting the oceans' ecosystems, I challenge James Cameron to make alien sharks poached by the humans in the next one so the sickening shark finning industry in the real world can get more attention. I would not mind it if Cameron can undo some of the damage Steven Spielberg has caused demonizing sharks which even he himself regrets.

    I love sharks.

Yeah they were basically crab-shaped amphibious AMP suits with IIRC a sonic weapon to fuck up the alien whales' echolocation during the alien whale poaching scenes.
