For a long time, I've wanted to do a custom Whirl. He was one of the few Transformers that survived the years since my childhood. A while back, I awoke from sleep thinking I had a great idea....convert Energon Quickstrike into Whirl, similar transformation, good size, etc. I found out some time after that this same idea was already done (by Wheeljack of sector70) yet - continued with the project, being a Whirl fan.

Since I had the G1 Whirl from my younger years, I did what I do best. Hacked it up. I used some of the original g1 Whirl parts on this custom : head, claw, feet, coptor blades. for the canon arm, I used parts from a VERY expensive zoid saber model kit. I did some heavy moding to build of this base figure, especially in the waist area (articulated) feet and other areas.

somehow, I integrated a working flashing 1mm LED, switch, battery and wires in his little head. A small on/off switch on the back activates the blinking RED led. *the g1 toy and art had the eye red as well*

Also, I installed a motor to his main helicopter blade (check out the video to follow demonstrating it) There's a small button on the tail of the helicopter which when pressed, spin his yellow blades of carnage.

Fan-freakin-Tastic, I'm really digging the motorized blade! E.Bulkhead has been begging for *years* to become Whirl, I really hope Hasbro at least gives us a repaint somewhere in the Universe/Generations line.
This was exactly why I was *really* hoping the Head Robots Whirl head would have been big enough to fit on this guy.

Looks great, except for the feet. They really get in the way of the alt mode.

    That's beautiful!

Though the feet in alt mode look kind of awkward.

Absolutely love it, including the feet but I would prefer it if the feet became the helicopter landing feet / struts.

haha thanks man. I actually thought I struck a great idea, posted it on procustomizers, and dummy autobotx23 replied with "it's be done" only to shatter my dreams of being super creative :(

I'm confused about something. I can see the front landing gear extended but the rear one is definately missing. Did you move it somewhere else or just lose it altogether?

Ineresting choice to lose the hip weapon emplacements, it does make him look closer to the original but I always though of him as bristling with guns, plus it seems a good/easy way to mimick his weapons-on-legs thing.

    Over all, outstanding as usual.

Also, just FYI, I'm going to steal most of this idea.

Awesome work dude!!! I, for one, actually LIKE the way the feet look in the ALT mode. The design gives something of an "otherworldly" tech feel to it, that is trying to partially mock earth-based tech.

I recently got a Bulkhead in trade for this exact project, interesting foot/ski design, dont know what route I'm taking yet.

here's WJ's Whirl btw. these 2 couldn't be much more different though, which is a good thing. mine is going to be unlike either of these thus far, I'm really inspired by IDW Whirl, but this is more G1.

poor bastard doesn't have hands :(  just a gun and a claw. what's the claw from?

I dig Whirl he's kinda like the Autobot take of Shockwave because they both have one optic. Still very cool.

Here's one possible solution (and fairly simple) to how the feet look in alt mode. Just put a couple of small cannons/mini-guns on the front of each foot. They wouldn't look too out of place in 'bot mode, and would help blend in the alt mode even more.

    Looks great, btw.

I love these heavy mods you do. Although I really like Whirl I always forget about him for some reason. Thanks for reminding me! :p
