This thread is for discussion the recently made Anime known as "Shingeki no Kyojin" AKA Attack on Titan.

For those who don't know, it's basically like a Zombie Apocalypse scenario except with emotionless, man-eating Giants (AKA Titans) and the last of humanity is guarded by giant walls and the Survey Corps.

Let me put it this way, the walls are breached.

And if that doesn't get you hyped, this should help:

Feel free to discuss the show, recent episodes, or other related stuff.

    Have fun!

I'm enjoying it so far, but I don't want to discuss much about it fit fear of spoiling it for someone.

I do wonder why the English title wasn't rendered more like "Attack of the Titans." "Attack on Titan" makes me think of space combat on the moons of Saturn.

I'm kicking myself for reading the manga, which is surprisingly more violent than a Quinton Tarantino movie. I found it similar to a zombie apocalypse show, but instead of zombies, there are giants. Greatest new show from Japan since Sword Art Online, an anime that's surprisingly based on a novel series, not manga!

We should have another thread for SAO.

They probably wanted to focus more on humanities struggle to fight back against the Titans rather then have it oh joy another show where people are slaughtered by monsters. It's all about the edge since a lot of shows seem to be following the same pattern these days. Oh hey another mecha anime romance.

This show gives me chills, but I just can't stop watching. I haven't been this horrified since I watched Blue Gender and that was mild compared to this show. Stupidly made the mistake of looking up the manga on wikipedia. Won't be doing that again. Not sure about posting spoilers either. It's really a show you have to watch the entire series first and then discuss it. I will say though it's so cute how Mikasa is just so protective of Eren.

When I watch an anime, I immediately look for reasons to stop watching (just because there are too many for me to get through). But this has been pretty great overall. The first two episodes a bit slow but they get the point across well enough and from there the show hasn't stopped giving.

Pretty awesome so far, hopefully they can keep it up. Just worried they are going to run into a brick wall once they catch up to the manga :s

Too many what? Anime? Reasons to stop watching?

Well as far as I've learned (Wikipedia :p ) they are planning 25 episodes, so since they're a couple of volumes so far they shouldn't run out of base material anytime soon.

I just hope they keep the same opening for like...forever.

Also Sasha Braus is best Potato Girl!

Most of the time the reason is that there's too much anime and not enough time (I've got a backlog of games, movies, tv shows, and anime to watch and it is loooooooong). When I watch a new one and it just doesn't grab my interest right away, I don't feel it's worth my time because I already have like 50 others that I need to get to.

Really, I should be watching this show in a heartbeat, as this looks amazing (and the talent involved is fantastic), but for some reason, the idea of characters getting eaten by giants is absolutely horrifying to me.

Crushed? Yeah. Shot? Sure. Explosion? Why not? Eaten? Yeesh!

I'll still give it a watch though (eventually), I'm not a complete pansy.

Huh, the gruesome deaths are one of the more defining features of this anime IMO.

Anyways, I think episode 7 did a great job of portraying the realities of war,
and who doesn't love a character that lops of heads with his bear hands?
I think episode 8 lost some of that momentum, but whatever. This definitely seems to be coming along as one of the more awesome/interesting series I've seen in a while.

lol if it helps at all, you don't see the actual act of them eating and chewing. The camera usually pans away and you see just the blood splatters and sometimes the mangled aftermath. You might see detached limbs though.

As odd as it may sound, that's not nearly as bad as some of the expressions the Titans have. Some are just spine tingly creepy.

I'm up to episode 7. I wasn't expecting it to be quite that brutal. Great show though. Someone made this incredible mock up of a live action movie poster:

An actual live action movie is being made, you know.
