As much as I hate what Michael Bay did to Transformers, I could totally see him doing

    MACROSS!

Heck you could argue that his focus on Sam & Mikala more closely mimics Rick and Minme than anything established in TF.

And this is coming from someone who hasn't watched Macross yet (going to eventually).

Rick and Minimei are Robotech, and while the animation is the same, and some of the plot elements are the same too, Macross and Robotech should never be confused with the other. as they are two totally different shows, with everything in robotech being much more then poorly edited, or translated. but changed. While Macross got the lightest part of the ax, Lighter then the other 2 series, it still received enough of the Ax to say that Hikaru Ichijyo, and Rick Hunter, are not the same characters. As they are vastly different. Hell, Roy Fokker, is a great father/brother figure to Rick, while Roy Focker is a complete womanizing drunk.

with that said, Michael Bay would have no clue what he'd be doing if he did a Macross, or even a Robotech movie.

If we were to get a Macross movie, it should be done by the Japanese, and ONLY the Japanese. And then left to be translated by someone other then Harmony Gold. Who should never be allowed to touch another Anime for the rest of their existence. *And this is coming from a guy who's Username is named after Robotech characters. While I do enjoy robotech, i do recognize that it was a bunch of mutilated shows, smashed into one. Much like Voltron.*

Michael Bay, and America, should have no place in making this movie. WB can produce it, like they did with rurouni kenshin. But they have to let the Japanese take full creative control of it. And Let it be well done. And it would have to be VERY well done. This is Macross we are talking about. It isn't some small 80's cartoon that they can just remake, and crap all over on.

Michael Bay should never again be allowed to make a movie. period. let alone, Macross.

^this would be my reaction. I honestly wouldn't even know where to begin an argument against what you just said.

You should definitely check out Macross Frontier. Not sure how it compares to the originals, but it's still a fantastic series. Although stay away from the movie they change sooo much of the plot from the tv series.

I see MBay ideally adapting only two animes:

PANTY AND STOCKING WITH GARTERBELT. Gainax made a show about two angel sisters who are filthy-minded and foul-mouthed and use their underwear as weaponry. It was a huge hit with Japanese and American audiences, and I'm sure these would be MBay's dream action women to bring to life.

DRAGON BALL Z. I can see the slag-storm coming, but I'll still go ahead and say it: Michael Bay should make a live-action DBZ film. It would be awesome with kung-fu*9000, planet-size Baysplosions and a country-bumpkin hero who'd get himself into all sorts of scrapes outside the battlefield. It would be :bay

Macross? No. Hell, I don't think I'd want a Macross live action movie. It always worked best to me as a space opera, and that sort of needs an ongoing series of episodes so you can really flesh out the story and characters. Which isn't to say you can't do sidestories like in Macross Plus (but then again, I don't think I'd want a live action Macross Plus either), however. A live action Macross series would likely end up being like the recent BSG show, not that that would be an awful thing, I guess...

No, man, the Macross franchise is so beautiful for him to put his hand on it. :S I like Bay's movies but keep him away from Macross. :(
I am going to agree with my friend Arturo and say he will do a better job for The Centurions movie. ^^

He's even more badly suited to Macross than to Transformers. Macross has always had more emotional depth and such. If an American Macross movie would be made (which I'd be all for), we need someone like Steven Spielberg, Joss Whedon, or J.J. Abrams to direct.

Never watched either one of these series but if Bay is directing a show based on a beloved 80's franchise.

    Then No.

    Make it happen, hollywood.

That show was basically an animated adaptation of Michael Bay's subconcious.

And they were suitably awesome, but if you want to hand Michael Bay a franchise for him to helm, GI Joe seems like the most obvious one to me.
