Hi everybody, I know these guys have been done to death, but here we go again... These all started with the TRU reissues, on Kickback I used the arms from Classics Hound, and the thighs from the crappy spinny-waist Optimus Prime. I also added waist rotation, and put balljoints on his grasshopper legs so he can bend his knees in robot mode. On Shrapnel, I used classics seeker legs and arms to give him articulation, and made his head pivot. And on Bombshell I added balljoints to his original shoulders and elbows, and built up his arms for a thicker look. His thighs came from the Classics Megatron that came in the two-pack with spinny-waist Prime. I also made his head and waist pivot. You also may have noticed I left all the original wheels on these guys, because thats how I roll.
well painted! just not sure how i feel about the white on there instead of chrome/silver. but to each his own and congrats on a steller articulation! id love to own a set of these.
Great job, this is on my list to do someday as well. I appreciate your details about the parts you used. Some day I may start pm'ing you about it!
I like chrome too, but I wanted them to look toonish, and since I replaced the thighs on Bombshell and Shrapnel, there was no turning back, the chrome was gone. Thanks man! Thanks, I had to find some use for the crappy Prime/Megatron, for a while I felt that I waisted $20. At least their parts went to a good cause. No problem, and thanks!
I never get tired of articulated Insecticons - especially when they're done as nicely as these guys. Sweet-ass job Mate!
i really like these, i also like the white, much more cartoonish, and kudo for the different approach!! welldone and great work
Excellent work, as always... these guys look fantastic. Oddly surprising to see you do a G1 articulation project like this utilizing wholesale parts from other TFs. Your G1 Autobots tend to have a sort of "invisible" approach to adding joints, leaving them 1980's toy-accurate. Not a critique at all (these are great), but I'm just curious why you made the shift between styles. zmog
Thanks guys! Thanks Allen, and I will be around more often! Well I actually started doing these with just the original parts, but they looked odd to me. The proportions were off, and since I planned on painting these anyways, I took the easy way out. Of course the originality was sacrificed, but I don't take that approach on any of the cars, and you'll be seeing the last three 84'-85' cars (Inferno, Sideswipe, and Trailbreaker) posted soon with my old style.
Awesome! Can't wait to see 'em! And yeah, I agree that using the "invisible" approach to the Insecticons might not have been as attractive anyway. These look great. zmog
excellent, most excellent. don't be afraid to take chances. well what am i saying, of course you're not!! great job!
Thanks man! Thanks Smog! Ill be posting Inferno(which has been finished for months) this weekend. I have the same problem; too many plans, too little time... Thanks bud! The Prime and Megatron parts I used came from this 2-pack: This Prime has a shitty spring loaded "punch" gimmick. I have another one in my collection, but id chop it up in a hartbeat if I needed any of his parts. Thanks guys, I kinda like the white/toon style too. If I were to do them again, I might have chosen a little brighter purple, but over all, Im happy with the color palette. Never! Taking chances is what bashing is all about!
bombshell is my fav. great job on them over all... i have to get around to these one day. what did you use to paint with? they look so smooth.
