I've seen a few of those Chinese version Armada box sets for about $35. Since a US box set isn't available (I think only a few DVDs are out), this might be a good option.

Was this series decent? Please give me your opinions on the animation, characters, storyline etc.

Side note: Is an Energon box set available anywhere? I think the Superlink DVDs are available, but I would like to understand what's being said.

You mean, Armada dubbed in Chinese? Or is it subbed? Either way sounds interesting :)  You get to compare the difference and it's fun.

I like Armada, but animation is not very good quality except for several episodes (when the animation is good, it is really good).
Some people enjoyed the series and the others did not at all, so I can't say.

I liked the series a lot even though there were quite a few dubbing errors and animation quality was generally average.

To me it was a fun series

hated the cartoon. Very childish and poor animation for the most part (still frames abound).
In combination, the great animated scenes could be combined into a single episode (22 minutes) or less.

Thought it had one of the best ending fights. Most of the second half of that series really got pretty good.

The animation on Armada was weak, especially in the first half. In the second half, though, the series really started to hit its stride. Ironically, this is the half that has never been released on a US DVD. It's good entertainment throughout, and Starscream really shines in the later episodes. Plus, most of the episodes from Threaten up really work, and you get a really fast paced final arc.

I found it nearly unwatchable. First of all, it was like Aeon was stalling for time. The bulk of nearly every episode (an exageration, but not by much) consisted of characters standing around, staring at each other, and either saying nothing or making those "ooh" and "ahh" sounds prevalent in bad anime. It really is the most poorly paced show I've seen, ever.

The vast majority of battle sequences consisted of a slow pan across a frozen picture with lasers flashing through it, and that's not an exageration. The remaining battle sequences consisted of missed shots and hand holding, with the exception of ep. 52, which had a good fight, but not as good as Armada fans like to claim.

As others have mentioned, the animation ranged from unrecognizable crap to pretty good. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the series was below the mediocre point.

The kids were far too prevalent, even Armada fans concede this. And these kids are terrible characters, literally no redeeming value whatsoever - especially Carlos.

The dialogue was perhaps the most mindless drivel every to pollute the airwaves, but I'm not sure if that will be the case with a foreign dub.

So I would recommend saving your money, but that's just me, there are many others that like the series.

I'm quite sure that a good show could be made by editing the Japanese episodes into a shorter series.

If anything I would recommend skipping over the first half of the series ... its bad. Once Unicron got involved the series became interesting. Unfortunately the kids never got flushed out of an air lock, or stepped on. Like peteynorth said they have no redeeming value what so ever.

IMO the only good parts of the series was Starscream vs Megs, Prime Vs Galvy, Unicron putting a shot across Cybertron's bow ... and that's about it. As someone else already said, the series could have been boiled down to one or two episodes.

Eh, the animation wasn't too bad IMO, but the plot was weak and the Decepticons were pansies (I can't explain without giving spoilers)

The 40 first EPs are abysmal at best, save for a few good ones. However, The last 12 eps or so, The Unicron Battles, are brilliant.

When Energon first started it seemed like it might be pretty good. I was curious how Armada ended, so I decided to go back give Armada another shot. I ended up DLing the whole series. I thought that maybe with the intial shock of the series gone I might be able to enjoy it at least a little. WRONG! I literally had to force myself to watch every episode. Almost every word of dialogue still made me cringe. I was only able to make through the first 18 eps or so. I eventually deleted the whole series because I knew I'd never be able to finish it. Some people seem to like it though so you might too. I'd recommend DLing a few eps first if you can. That way if you don't like it, you didn't waste your money.

I watched one or two earlier episodes... it wasn't anything really all that great. And I'm easy to please. Aside from the growing huge for no real reason bit at the end of Energon, I liked that series. Aside from the decepticons being morons.

However, Armada Starscream's final battle (here's a spoiler: Starscream dies! OMG!) was pretty awesome.

For what it's worth, I really enjoyed the three Micron Legend DVDs I bought. Probably because I couldn't understand the goofy dialogue, which made me focus on body language and tone. Indeed, I even laughed at a couple scenes. I had no problem with the animation.

If you can check the last couple of eps, they were alright.
All the rest could be summed up in a hour.
Energon was harder for me to watch. It was the samething over and over.

I'm not sure, if it's the same company that did the G1 eps and Headmasters/Masterforce/Victory, then it should have Chinese subs and dubs.

armada sucks most of the time, but those final episodes are amazing.

Armada has some of the best TF animation ever, and it also has the absolute worst. sometimes a few scenes of Aeon's best animation in an episode made up for the god-awful crap that we had to sit through the rest of the episode.

    Memorable Moments:
    Episode 1: G1 cameos ahoy!
    Jetfire and Optimus' combination.
Optimus and Jetfire attacking the decepticon ship, mid-air seperation of the super mode, and Megatron pinning prime and forcing him to watch the hydra cannon fire at earth
    Unicron's transformation. OMG.
Final episode, from beginning to end. drop-dead gorgeous, great battle that lasts the entire episode that inflicts heavy damage on both prime and galvatron, along with a very somber ending.

You know, I'm going to go back and check out some of the final Armada episodes. I stopped watching RID because of the annoying kids, pussy Decepticons, and idiot Autobots, and my first impression of Armada was that it was just more of the same. I never went back to it. Maybe I'll give a chance to some of those later episodes you guys have given props to.
