With the beginning of Chinese new year, next Saturday (the 25th), are we basically on break for the next six weeks? Anyone think something new will be released within the next four to five days?

I mentioned this to a friend of mine asking about how slow imports will be, he laughed and said his plan for the duration is to pretend to be Thai on mmos and paste "Thailand number one China is asshole" at his customs job as he'll have almost nothing to do apparently.

 

Yea, we on vacation now. Made my one order yesterday on eBay for a few small mechas that should ship today from China, but who knows if it will leave the country before the lock down...

 

If I order something from netclow now, would it reach me at the regular pace or would it be delayed?

Until March? No.

For one, anything that's already out is still coming. Domestic sellers outside China will still be getting stuff that made it out before the holiday.

For two, while the Chinese post will be closed on certain days it's not closing going to be closed for two weeks straight.

For three, yes, New Year's Day is the 25th, and yes, the factories will shut down and workers will travel to visit family starting this weekend. But the entire spring festival (of which CNY is part of) is 15 days. Everything will be back to normal by February 10th.

For four, while the factories aren't going to be cranking out new toys many shop owners won't take the entire time off. Traditionally you're allowed to go out after the 5th day, and even if they take the whole week off many shops will be open again by February 3rd.

So while we might not see any new stuff coming out until March or April you are, by and large, still free to shop for any figures that were released by now.

 

What I've read is that factory shut down is variable depending on the people in charge and what they make. They can shut down anywhere up to about a week before CNY, and stay shut down up to 3 or 4 weeks afterward due to workers travelling far away to be with family. I expect the number that are shut down for the maximum time is very few, since we don't know any specific factories' plan It could be down that long.

 

Most business should be open by the 5th day after CNY. Factories are not gonna wait for everyone to come back to start again (that's money wasted) unless the majority of employees are from elsewhere.
