I think their largest mistake was abandoning older generations. Retro gaming stores are some of the only places to find and purchase older gen items and a lot of people are really invested in picking up those old classics at a good price. (And some of those prices can get truly insane that folks are actually willing to pay.)

Yeah, there are some games *cough cough Air Raid* that are literally worth a fortune. I wish GameStop would sell stuff for anything older than 3DS.

I dunno if he can turn it around, but good luck to him. I really don't wanna see GS go.

Small Nintendo stores don’t sound like a bad idea. But seriously does he have anything to do with Nintendo anymore?

Honestly, Reggie being there is probably to make a new chain after GameStop dies.

At this point Coronavirus is going to kill GameStop and this might be a turning point for digital sales on consoles.

Why would it be a turning point for digital sales? Without Gamestop there's still Target, Walmart, Best Buy, Level 7 Games, etc.

Because people are paranoid about the virus and the convenance of download is easier and safer. Digital platforms are booming in sales due to Coronavirus plus a lot of PC game launchers are having massive “Spring” sales right now.

I guess. I still can't justify going digital.

I'm just here to express my surprise that we hadn't already seen the end of GameStop 15 years ago. I've never heard of or had anything but bad experiences there. This is like a celebrity death thread where you had assumed the person had already died a long time before. The place has never been anything but the punchline to a bad joke.

It's something that needs to be justified?

I’m still a staunch believer in physical > digital.

Why? Because you're stuck in the past? You still have space in your home that hasn't been cluttered up yet? You eventually want to contribute to a local landfill piles of stuff that won't biodegrade until the next ice age?

I still get a majority of console games in physical format. About 60% physical. I’m 100% digital for PC gaming. For movies I would say I’m about 80% digital 20% physical. I just buy MCU and Star Wars on physical. At this point I won’t be upset if physical media dies.

Yes, yes it does. I don't actually own a digital game. I can't put it on my shelf. I can't lend it to friends. I can't sell it if I don't like it/want to keep it. I don't have anything to show for my money's worth. Not to mention if the company's servers go down or the company goes under, I no longer have my games.

The only reason I have digital games is because of the free games for PS+ or they were ports of games I already own physically and it was used with money someone else gave.
