Sorry if it has been discussed before but I was arranging my toy room and the Titan Class figures take about as much space and have as much playability as my playsets from GI Joe, Star Wars and MOTUC. So in technical terms would they be playsets or action figures?
Yup, houses other figures in all the modes, specially trypticon and max Only thing they lack nowadays is gimmicks in base mode, trap doors/jails and repair bays/elevators etc technically scorponok and max have trap doors, max has a jail too it’s just not as much effort put in compared to g1 Micromaster bases are also small playsets Including quintessons
Officially no, being with a robot form they are a bit of a grey area but I'd still stick with saying "no" as they are no different from headmasters that have spots for other minibots, or Optimus trailer, etc. and are more platforms than actual playset. The last product that was an official/recognized playset, was the Ark from the movies (but fairly small). Aside that, anything "new-ish" that is considered playsets would be the Rescue bots that have actual playsets. Do a search for "playset" and you'll see that not a single robot, Titan or other will come up. So they might have a "base mode" but just aren't playsets, at least not as defined by Hasbro. In the end, it's down to what you might define as one, so again it's a grey area.
The thing about Transformers is that they were always multiple toys in one. "It's a jet plane/car/microscope AND an action figure" Titans (at least the baseformers) just add in a playset mode to that list. So they are playsets as much as they are action figures and toy vehicles/etc.
Looks like next year's titan will officially be a playset. I consider the titans with base modes to be playsets that also have bot modes.
