Anyone ever buy one of those loose with trailer versions that pop up on Ebay and all the usual sites? I am extremely happy with my MPP10 and Oversized KO Grimlock–could I expect similar quality? Or am I just a masochist?
I got one, it's better than the v1/v2 MP09 in my experience but it's nowhere near the same level of quality as MPP10 or Reximus Prime. MP09 isn't very good in general qc wise.
Buying any version of the MP9 mold is probably an exercise in masochism. IMO, it's just over-engineered. It does make a very pretty statue though.
I also got one, the chrome was a bit scuffed so I ended up repainting it metallic silver. Looks good. Other than that seems about as good an example of this mold as any other.
There's a main thread somewhere with a lot more detail and info on this. Go poke around - if you're serious, it'll be worth your time to find it and read it. Short answer is that they're factory rejects as opposed to high-end KOs. There is a high chance of multitude of problems so you need to weigh price/performance. Personally, mine had a glue blob on his shin and a misassembled foot assembly that resulted in the ankle tilting the wrong way. Caveat emptor.
These aren't KO's. They are 'Fixed V1 returns/Factory Rejects". They are legit Takara MP-09. Some times you will get one with a foot on the wrong side or something like that. All very easy fixes. Best Regards,
Mine was garbage. It was one that was a factory reject or part of the original stock that was returned due to bad quality. Don't waste your money. Also, many of the sellers offering them are scammers.
I took the chance and bought one over the weekend from TF-Direct. At least it's from a reputable store.
Super cool. Not to put you on the spot, but I'd love to hear about how your experience pans out when you get yours.
I bought one a month ago and echo the sentiments in the original thread about it. If you don't mind risking a minor paint or assembly issue, its very nice, and definitely feels like an official reject as opposed to straight KO. The only issue i had on mine is the maroon paint on that small diecast piece on the car chest was scratched up. I just scratched the rest off so its exposed black metal and it doesn't bother me at all. Everything else is good. My only other issue is i wish there was an empty Takara box or KO box i could buy to store him in. Those seem hard to come by.
The origin of these has been a matter of dispute for ages. Some folks who are very much in the know swear they ARE in fact KOs. Other say they are factory rejects. So we don't really know for sure. I got one from TF-Direct when they first emerged. It didn't feel like a KO to me, although there were a number of issues with it - two right shoulders, a wheel that later jammed and wouldn't pull out, a misassembled spoiler (which was fixable). It wasn't all bad though - the backpack clipped in nice and tight and the legs were largely sound. I got some money off after complaining so in the end it wasn't a bad deal, but overall I'd say it wasn't a great purchase. Sold him on eventually.
I thought about getting one of these because they are cheap, but I'm sure there's a boxed KO on the way.
I'd lean toward the idea they are rejects, on the one i had nearly every component had something wrong with it, as if it's built off rejected pieces. The grey shoulder pieces had excess glue around the seam. Yellow spoiler had paint run the magenta piece below the chest had paint wear, my two officials never suffered from that at all, it's as if it was a rejected piece because of a poor paint run Spoiler arm was put on in reverse. Blue window tint had blotching Besides those things, it doesn't suffer from the usual KO issues of reverse engineering detail loss etc. All pieces feel solid and look original. Just with some QC issues.
I bought one of these about a year ago, a couple of assembly issues aside he was great, if you want a Roddy in that scale then I would recommend him, no tabbing issues with the backpack no breakage on the shins, in fact I transformers him a bunch of times and nothing ever broke on him.
