Not sure if this has been suggested before, but I didn't see anything from a forum search. Here is Bay's quote on Skids and Mudflap: "The twins are quite fun, I just kept thinking, 'What if we have two dumb Transformers that are young and dumb?' ... They are just irreverent, dumb Transformers." The toys have been pretty good indicators of what the bots are really going to be like, so lets look at the tech specs. Skids lists a 6 intelligence and Mudflap has a 5. This is pretty much average on a 1 to 10 scale, but lets see how they compare to the other known movie characters. Against the other Autobots, this intelligence score is on the low end. In fact, these two are below all the other Autobots. The next closest Autobots are Breakaway, Chromia, and Sideswipe with 7. However, intelligence scores of 5 and 6 are above many Decepticons, including Starscream, who has a 4. Demolisher and Skids share a score of 6, Barricade and Mudflap share a score of 5, and Brawl and Rampage trail the list at 3. So, what do you think? Does this count as evidence to Michael Bay's claims? Is it possible that the Skids and Mudflap are smarter than they look? Are these the ramblings of someone who's had too little sleep? Discuss.
I hate the twins but we haven't seen them yet. I think the ice cream truck toys look pretty rad though.
I've always felt that those Tech Specs have been pretty random, even in 1984 they were always off. There will be one or two characteristics that are right on, but the rest are debatable.
Tech specs always seem pretty bull to me. I don't think they have any hidden insight - Bay said they were dumb like three times in a row and that matters more towards the plot than a number on the packaging.

...No, I think they're just dumb. I mean, Bay has said it a billion times in interviews and such, their packaging bios make them out to be pretty dumb, and, jeez, look at them. It's not like the Twins being dumb is on the same scale as allegedly-fake-call-sheets or saying Megatron isn't brought back. The "misinformation campaign" is to obfuscate spoilers and other leaks, it's not about just randomly lying for no reason while describing minor film details a few months before release.
I know he says they are dumb but i have a feeling he doesn't mean downright stupid, they seem to be just very young, the closest thing to transformer children we have, i'm hoping they'll be innocent types, clumsy but full of themselves thinkin they are awesome and just eager to be good soldiers i cant wait for them honestly
I think that they are just young. Young kids...like middle school age...with courage and not much else. But they have the potential to grow into smarter adult bots.
I don't think they're "dumb" per say. I feel that they are young Autobots that are still in need of proper training and conduct around fellow soldiers. Almost like Jetfire and Jetstorm.
I cannot wait to finally hears these two talk i hope there like the two animated brothers minus the accent lol Dumb yet funny and not dumb enough to kick someones arse!! i think somehow these two are gonna be dare i say it the unsung heros of the movie somehow...
