Are the FoC deluxe and voyager class different scales?

I had not bought any Transformers since Beast Machines (when the mismatched scales turned me off) until I found the Fall of Cybertron stuff.

I was excited to see news of FoC Soundwave, Blaster, and "tapes" (and Grimlock until I saw he was a dinosaur on Cybertron, too), but having been out of Transformers for a while, I am not so familiar with the different classes of toys.

The current FoC toys are deluxe, right? Soundwave and Blaster are voyager? Are they going to be different in scale, and and if so, are they likely to be released later in deluxe scale?

Unfortunately scale does not exist in the toys. Fall of Cybertron Optimus is shorter than Jazz, while in game Jazz is 60% of Optimus's height. In game, Soundwave and Blaster would be the same height as Optimus. In toy form, the voyagers will be larger than the deluxes regardless of who they depict.

Even the War for Cybertron figures had some issues with scale. Bumblebee is taller than WFC Optimus and is arguably the largest of the figures when he should be the smallest.

They're Voyager class, so yeah they'll be bigger than the Deluxes.
Its unlikely that Hasbro will release them in Deluxe scale, because they'll have to make new molds, which isn't very cost effective considering bigger and better Voyager ones are on the market :/
But, I'm not sure if you knew, but there WAS a Deluxe War For Cybertron Soundwave released as part of the Generations line back in 2010, but this Soundwave is extremely rare unless you want to pay crazy prices for it...

Voyagers are bigger than deluxes. No word on a deluxe Soundwave, Blaster and Grimlock.

There is a Deluxe Soundwave mould (that is a smaller version of the voyager mould minus the disk feature) that was released for WfC.

    HOLY SHIT!!!

I just checked this out on ebay. A loose complete Deluxe Soundwave goes for (on average) $25. WOW!

Go figure, all the figures I will not sell from my collection are the ones that are worth the most. lol

First, throw scale out the window. Don't bother with the concept.

Second, there was already a Deluxe Soundwave a couple years ago in the Generations line. But naturally the new Voyager will be larger than Megatron and Optimus Prime, but so was Deluxe Bumblebee from the WFC set so scale went right out of the window from the start.

You're better off implying scale by how you display your figures. Pose them in action and set figures that are larger than they should be up front, and smaller figures that are supposed to be larger characters toward the back. You imply scale by setting a scene that implies a deeper field than there actually is.

I've... only ever seen Deluxes go up in price significantly. Voyagers have pretty much stayed near $20. Haven't seen any above $25 at least.

Thanks for the answers (all but one... as I said I have been away and different names could imply many things).

About how much difference are we talking about. I could live with a little, I have WoC Bumblebee and am mostly okay with him.

Nice to have WoC Soundwave pointed out. I did know about him and was considering getting him, but I like that the voyager has minions, and that I could get it for retail (of course I do not know if retail voyager would be more, less or the same as secondary WoC delux).

Welcome back to collecting, Kevin! :)

Hasbro's been messing around with the sizes of deluxes and voyagers since pretty much Revenge of the Fallen, but they've become even significantly smaller since the Dark of the Moon toyline.

The difference between deluxes and voyagers has become smaller because of that, although it varies from toy to toy (some deluxes are really tall, some voyagers are really short, and vice versa :) . In general though, most voyagers are roughly 125%-150% bigger than deluxes.

As Ryoku pointed out though, it's best not to collect Transformers according to correct sizes. Gone are the days where Optimus and Megatron were the biggest characters, and both got leader-sized toys. With the succes of Bumblebee, and kids nowadays caring more about the heroes, the bigger toy scales are often reserved for the Autobots, while the Decepticons (nowadays often depicted as being bigger and more monstrous than the 'Bots) get degraded to deluxe class (a scale where it's safer to take a gamble on less important characters).

And sometimes stuff just doesn't make sense. I too, am annoyed that Optimus from WFC/FOC hasn't gotten a voyager toy - and even worse: his FOC toy is actually the smallest of all FOC deluxes! :(

I'd say scalewise Soundwave and Blaster would have been better of as deluxes, so they fit in better with the rest of the cast - but there's no denying their ability to store the 'cassettes' is just awesome, right?

An educated guess as to how the size difference will look:

As someone who likes scale in their display, allow me to tell you how my collection is.

On the Bots side, I use WFC Optimus as my Optimus. I have WFC Bee but don't extend his legs, which makes him a hair shorter than Optimus. Jazz is a good size with WFC Optimus as well. (I also have a customized WFC Megatron into my FOC tank, Breach.) FOC Sideswipe will be the same size as Jazz since they are almost the same mold. If I had a Cliffjumper he would be mistransformed as Bee is (and I now kick myself for passing on him so many freaking times). Ultra Magnus will be short; there's no way around it...

For the Cons, WFC Megatron stands tall and imposing. Soundwave and Shockwave flank him and while Soundwave is the same height, Shockwave is shorter but not enough to bug me. My Combaticons are a decent height compared to Megatron as well. The insecticon will be short but I'm okay with that too.

Thanks to WFC Optimus and Megatron, the shrinking deluxes actually help a Cybertron display.

And as far as wanting Soundwave to have his minions, I never miss an opportunity to advertise for Fakebuskers AMAZING stuff. Seriously, check out his stuff:

TRU has the Prime voyagers at $26.99, but granted, that is TRU.

And then they have the GDO voyagers at $22.99. Shrug.

for some reason classics/generations/whatever shit is ridiculously expensive, i guess because they appeal to a wider audience. weird how the WFC-inspired stuff is that way too though, seems like they wouldn't be in demand

As for Grimlock, they explain in the game why he is a dinosaur on Cybertron. If you let his alt mode turn you off because it's "inaccurate", you simply haven't done your homework :)
Remember, WfC and FoC is not G1. even though it's heavily inspired by, and takes a lot from, the generation that started it all.

Thanks for the information, ideas and comparisons. I might be okay if they are only a little taller.

I plan on getting WoC Prime because I like the vehicle better and for his slightly larger size (I have been looking at the Seibertron galleries to get what information I could).

As for Grimlock, thanks for mentioning there is an explanation. I did do my home work there (actually, I think I did it at work...), so I did know about it, I just think it lacks imagination and originality (not that I hoped he would be a crane or the like (see, lots of homework)).

I think it has less to do with lack of imagination and everything to do with the fact that EVERYONE LOVES THE DINOBOTS.

I personally thought the explaination worked perfectly.
