Are the ‘retro’ Headmasters a dismal failure?

I’ve seen these EVERYWHERE, sitting on shelves like the real retro G1 toys never did (well certainly not here in L.A.)

Even specialist toy dealers like those at Frank and Sons are selling them for a dismal five dollar mark up from retail.

Have these been a huge failure for Hasbro? I really hope so.

It’s not a geewun thing, it’s a put the real toys in the vintage boxes thing with me (already pre ordered Beast Wars reissues)

Joe fans have accepted it, because Hasbro has screwed that line up for years, but I’m really hoping this has failed for Hasbro. It’s a f**king terrible idea.

Well I'm a geewun fan and here in Ohio, I barely see these in stock. Sells out almost immediately. I think these are the best thing since the original Walmart reissues. Now the GI Joe is a different story. Have a crap ton of the vehicles but no figures.

I've seen them in my area but they never sit for long. They seem to be selling pretty well.

And technically they're not a failure for Hasbro regardless. Hasbro already made their profit when they sold them to Walmart. Perhaps they'll be a failure for Walmart, but at least in this area, it doesn't appear so.

Not all of us have the luxury of living in port cities. Heres a list of all the times i have seen them on shelves at retail:

Just because you dont like something, it doesnt mean other people dont. I do not enjoy Beast wars, or Bayverse, but if it makes people happy, who cares? I will say i picked up Black Arachnia and was immensly impressed with her transformation. Beast Wars Not My Thing
I also got Elita 1 at the same time. Chug. My Thing. Shes a shellformer, and I seriously considered taking her back.
People are also getting a chance a titans return figs that they did not get. Personally, I hope they have another wave with Topspin, Twintwist, Misfire and Windblade.
Lastly, there is a reason that most of them are selling at $40 plus online. People are buying them.

My Wal-mart went through three cases in a few weeks, so they're selling in my area.

Thanks for clarifying, it was too subtle.

I have hardly seen them, but maybe it is taking time for them to come east?

I wasn’t going to buy any, but then I read of reports of the original TR Weirdwolf and Mindwipe disintegrating. So now I feel I need to track those down as backups.

I wonder, since Hasbro is really into scale now, if they might do voyagers down the road?

These are selling well in my area. Holding out hope for a perceptor wave. I’d enjoy the line being expanded with a repaint as a new character.

Seem to be selling really quick in my area. Not my cup of tea but rare for me to see them stay on shelves between visits.

Supposedly we're getting a Fangry, Sideways, and Arcee out of wave 3 of this, so we better hope they don't fail...

I thought that was debunked as fake pretty quickly.

Was it? It wouldn't surprise me. Either way, I don't think the retros are a failure.

No, they're barely in stock here. Except for Weird Wolf. I'm looking for Mindwipe for my boyfriend, I made a cool custom with Skullcruncher, and I love my Brainstorm, so I'm a happy camper.

Aside from the mini metal figures, and the HISS Tank, I haven't seen the new Joes.

Yeah, I'd be all for those myself, but as of right now they're just a dream.

I don't think the retro figs are a failure either honestly, and as I've already stated many times in numerous threads, I'll buy every retro figure Hasbro decides to put out just to keep them in their packaging. :lol

Still haven't found them in stores. Ebay is putting a 20-30% premium, so they seem to be popular.

I saw a singular Chromedome a few weeks back but nothing since. They’re flying off the shelves.

I see a lot of people commenting about how they are looking for them so I don't know where the hell you are getting your crazy assumption. One store doesn't tell you the market.

Confirmed fake pretty much the same day they launched. I was having a giggle as there was a Sideways picture along with them and I was just going 'just, reissue armada sideways. c'mon, do it'.

But yeah, the Retro Headmasters are selling fairly well.

What's wrong with reissuing modern figures in classic styling? While G1 reissues are nice, you can do so much more with the newer figures. Sure, it'd be nice to get G1 Headmaster reissues at some point, but I loved the opportunity to get a domestic release of TR Chromedome with the "right" head rather than the IDW noggin.

I've only seen the retro Headmasters twice in my area. Fortunately one of those occasions was the aforementioned Chromedome.

Just curious ... Why are modern figures of G1 characters any less "real" to you than the originals?
