I'm just curious... I recently received a First Edition Transformers Prime Megatron, Deluxe Class, and he came with two right hands. I've made arrangements with Hasbro to get reimbursed for the toy, and I've already purchased a replacement. However, my wife thinks that I should hold onto the incorrectly assembled toy because it is "unique"...
What do you guys think? Any value here?

Nope. It is worth less as a defect as there is no demand for something like that. Now a paint app that is unique someone may pay for.

Not with todays toys. Use it for a custom, or as a parts spare.

Yep, worth less. Maybe, just maybe, in 30 years or so it will be worth more than a regular one if you keep the set MISB... but that's a terrible, terrible idea.

no, otherwise, every single MP-10 would be worth more than MP-04 due to the poorly designed index finger knuckle.

Would you pay money for a toy you know is defective? Would you intentionally pay more money specifically for a toy you know is defective?

Do you think anyone else would?

(Personally, if I had a toy with two of the same hand, I'd start looking for someone with two of the opposite hand and make a trade.)

Well, I wouldn't, but this is technically a defective product.

    Yeah.

With the frequency of defects these days, I really doubt it (especially if it's opened). Packaging irregularities, I think, would be a different story. But I still wouldn't expect my Shockblast in a Cliffjumper box to be worth much more than a Shockblast in his own box.

In general, no, but if it's MISB, some people might be interested in it as an oddity for their collection, especially if they're attracted to that character. In either case it won't be significantly more valuable, even to them.

well we know by 'defective' he meant functionally defective, not just color variation.

but yeah double hand/feet figures are worthless because they're clearly defective, swapped head/paint job might be worth something because it can counted as variation.

I don't know why this keeps getting asked. For those who collect for value, you want perfect, pristine, examples of the toy.

A toy with a factory error is flawed out of the gate. And often enough, it's a one-off mistake with little interest to garner attention and appeal.

How is that defective? It's a test shot put into circulation, accidentally. There's nothing wrong with the figure, it just wasn't meant to be put on the market.

I think it depends on the error as well as how widespread it is. Packaging errors that are widespread fit this category. One only has to venture to G1 1987 for the Targetmasters, as some of them mislabeled the binary partner names. Also from G1, some of the Diaclones actually made it to retail in the Transformers packages as overstock from the line, etc. Things like that are very interesting.

However a figure such as this that has two of the same hand? Not hardly the same thing. The set isn't "rare" to begin with and most likely won't be in the future.

I bought an MP 11 Starscream while on holiday, then after I flew home and opened it, I saw that it was missing the red and white stripe on the left wing.
All it does is annoy me because I'm OCD with unsymmetrical things :/

You don't even have to go that far back. Alt Silverstreak with the steering wheel on the right hand side, Armada Bendy Prime with the various degrees of paint apps, Armada Dinobots with the Swoop Vs Terranotron packaging. But those I classify as variants and not a defect. A figure like the OP has with wrong parts (i.e. two right hands/feet/groin) I would call defective.

I like how you give examples, and then immediately point out that they're not actually examples.

... aw, dammit. I'm being a pedantic dick again. Sorry about that.
