Are BW reissues doomed to become shelfwarmers?

Re-casting a mold can be done, but is much more expensive than simply re-using an existing mold. The G1 Soundwave mold was recast from a toy due to the demand and popularity of Soundwave(plus the benefit of the second use as Soundblaster). Takara has not seemed to think Sunstreaker, Wheeljack, and Mirage are popular enough to warrant re-casting.... so if those reissues aren't worth it, would the Metals Ravage mold be worth it?

The only store in my area that has gotten them has been Target. They sold out three times before they hit a saturation point. (each time seem to be about two cases) Now they sit there.

This sucks cause all we've had is wave 1. Untill they sell out of the current stock we won't get wave 2. And worse they may not even carry wave 3 cause of it. :thumbdown

Do we seriously expect kids to care about toys of characters from a show that stopped airing 7 years ago, when they're only 8 or 9 now? I mean, really.

*shrugs* Beast Wars is still airing on cable, and DVDs just went on sale in the last couple of years. I definitely like the paint jobs better than the originals. Except for Rattrap. I'll have to open him tonight.

Oddly enough when i first saw the early BW toys ads on the TV I was the same way too.

"What?? Transformers are cars and trucks. Not realistic animals. Bah. Rot in hell!"

Then i saw the show and loved it. Then picked up a few and loved them more.

Soundwave wasn't recast, they used Soundblaster to make him.

Well, according to Aaron Archer at the Botcon 2005 Hasbro/Takara panel Soundwave was recast.

There was extensive work that needed to be done to get Soundwave reissued. Many of the pieces needed to be completely redone. I don't know if they used a toy to remake the pieces, I haven't heard anything but specualtion on that. But I know that the technology exists where pieces can be cast from a 3D computer model, which I think is much more practical.

I dunno, but it's kinda strange here, at the local Target here I see Cheetors shelfwarming.

Though, I woudn't worry too much as I can prepare more funds for Wave 2 whenever it comes out.

Where is it airing? On G4TV in a badly promoted and horribly out of order block? Pah. That's really not giving it much exposure at all to kids, as G4 is a channel aimed squarely to adults.

As for the DVDs, same deal. This isn't Disney movies. The kids aren;t going to *want* a DVD set of a show they've never heard of starring a bunch of characters they don't know anything about. And the parents are unlikely to pick up such a relatively low profile release randomly.

I don't disagree. But Cybertron doesn't exactly have a choice timeslot either. They are just one step above infomercials as far as the time they air.

I don't think the BW reissues are warmin' shelves here, they're selling like hot cakes. And I'm from Canada, we don't even get a DVD with our BW reissues!

While I personally like the reissues (wish they'd have done something a little different with Rattrap though; they didn't really change his paint scheme enough from my old one) I think they should go the route they're going with Primal and Megs if they plan to do anymore; craft new molds for them.
