Are BW reissues doomed to become shelfwarmers?

Lately, I've seen kids looking at the BW reissues on store shelves with a total lack of interest. They don't seem to appeal today's kids.

In particular, this 8 or 9 year old kid at my local TRU was looking a the TF display. He was all over the Cybertron toys, the SWTFs and even the Alternators. He was begging his mom to get one.

He then saw the BW reissues and laughed.

"What?! Those aren't Transformers. Wait... Oh... THEY ARE! Animals?! What? That is SO lame. Who's this guy? Rhinox?! Ha! What a stupid name, he sucks! He turns into a lame animal and, uh.."

    -Kid looks at Cybertron display

"COOOOOOOL! MOM!!! LOOK!! DARK SCORPONOK!!! I WANT HIM! CAN I? PLEAAAAAAAAAASE!

Albeit funny, this made me think... BW was popluar in the late nineties mostly due to the Jurrasic park trend. Kids loved dinos and insect toys, hence the success of Beast Wars. However, todays kids seemed to be more interested in vehicle-based toys.

What do you think? Are the BW reissued doomed to warm shelves of your local Wal-Marts and TRU?

Every Target and Toys R Us I've been to in the last month or so have had the same stock of BW figures just sitting there. It makes me fear that I may never find the second wave in stores.

I scooped up wave two at first sight because I was worried about shelfwarming. With the new mold Megatron and Primal coming out already in May, I don't think the expectations were high regarding sales of BWX. I'm thinking this is intended to be a short-lived line, clearanced out by August.

It makes the outlook for wave 3 look pretty poor too. :(

I have a feeling Wave 3 will be in with the Cybertron toys some how or another. All that's in there is the Primal and Megatron. They're basically Cybertron figures being marketed as BW figures.

i had the opposite thing happen at TRU the other day...a kid walked to the TF aisle, and immediately started hunting through the beast wars toys...i heard him say he was looking for rattrap....so i guess it depends on the kid...but they do seem to be warming the shelf....i bet theyd be moving way better if they were 10 bucks though....that seems to be the biggest problem ive seen...a kid will pick it up, and his mom will say, you only have 10 dollars...so then he grabs a cybertron deluxe instead...

Could be. Until they're seen in packaging, they could be either BWX or Cybertron.

Huh....out here in CA I rarely see them since they move quite quickly, but at the risk of bring down the wrath of the fans upon my head, I must say that I have to agree with the kid in Hook's initial post. I like my TFs to be vehicles or at the very least metallic animals with a look that screams "I'm a robot, damn it, not an organic animal!"

Hopefully the later... my usual source is overcharging on both price and shipping for these two. Ther's no way i'm paying $70 for the two of them.

I know it's all a matter of opinion, but I jsut don't feel the Beast toys don't hold up very well against the current toys on the shelves. Transformers or otherwise.

It's weird-- they move fast at Target and Fred Meyer, but Toys R Us literally has 10-15 of each. I guess it's true what they say, toy sales are happening less and less at actual toy stores.

It depends on where I look. Rhinox doesn't seem to be moving at all, but some stores are totally out of Cheetor while others are out of Waspinator.

So far, the only place I've seen wave 2 had two Rattraps, but no Dinobot or Tarantulas.

Yeah they moved fast out here, but now there is a full stock of them warming shelves in Toys R' Us. They are all out in Target and Walmart and I haven't had any signs of wave 2 yet.

I had been afraid of later waves not showing up, but more importantly I feared ruined boxes on store shelves so I got the frist 2 waves(and have the 3rd pre-ordered) from Entertainment Earth. I wanted doubles(open and sealed) anyway so it worked out great.

But the 3rd wave case pack is currently listed as: 2xPrimal, 2xMegatron, 1xRattrap, and 1xDinobot ... subject to change. So I'll have an extra Rattrap and Dinobot in June. That is better than the previous listing with 4xPrimal and 2xMegatron though.

I'm sure Hasbro didn't have sales expectations of BW10th equalling Cybertron sales, and that's probably part of the reason for the $15 price tag.

This case assortment pre-orders should be a good indication that Hasbro isn't contemplating putting them in Cybertron packaging. Don't forget they're also set to include the mini-ships and a comic book. I can't see them being switched over to Cybertron now, it's too late. Even if Wave 1 & 2 sales are horrible and they cancel wave 3, I'm not sure there'd be enough time before the end of Cybertron to fit them... maybe, but it took over a year for Hasbro to get Alternator Tracks re-released.

    I'd buy them.
Of course, Hasbro UK would have to release them here first; I refuse to buy them on eBay for £20 & shipping.

I'd have gotten all of the first wave when it first arrived had they been $10 each.

In Canada they are too pricey at 20 bucks. For that you could get 4 basics (in the two packs). Also we don't get any DVD in the pack, so there is less reason for a new fan to get it. Hasbro should have timed the re-release with a re-release of the cartoon to spark interest.
