I recent purchased a G1 reissue Starscream and couldn't believe how difficult applying the stickers was! Half of them didn't properly fit the surfaces they were supposed to cover and the other half were difficult just to get off the sticker sheet. I realize that this is a 7 year old toy but I can't remember the last time applying stickers to anything was nearly so challenging--and I always really like applying the stickers! After a lot of work I'm happy with the final product, but what a raging pain. Anyone else have this problem too? Are there any other G1 Transformer reissues (other than the other jets) that have such bogus stickers?
Stickers in general tend to be frustrating. I've had problems applying stickers to many of the reissues. Some that come to mind immediately are Hound, Tracks, Grapple and Bombshell (I also buy the Takara reissues).
I have the same problem with my Hasbro/Takara reissues. I read somewhere that you should wipe down your figures before applying the stickers. I dont know if thats true.
The gold/black sticker for G1 Starscream's eyes is the worst (I got the TFC Takara re-issue 5 years back). So small, so hard to apply to the uneven surface of his face. However, for me anyway...I love applying the stickers. Though, they can be frustrating on occasion. I wish they would bring back decals for the TFs.
I put the stickers on the trailer of a reissue Laser Prime and five minutes later they fell off. Even after I wiped the trailer down first.
I would love to see more reissues with painted or tampographed details where the stickers would originally have gone.
Try cutting the eye stickers so they are separate and not one piece. It looks much better and stays on much better. Only problem is it is really small and hard to handle.
^This. Stickers used to be fun, but now they're just a pain in the ass. All the details should be there when you buy it.
It's just Starscream. His stickers don't want to stick on very well. I botched the torse side stickers on my encore SS. They do not want to stay on. With TC and SW I went about it the other way and they stay on well enough.
I had problems getting some of my stickers to stick. They just didn't have enough adhesive. So I bought a gluestick, and rubbed the sticker against the gluestick before applying. It worked great!
nope...the worse sticker sheet in the world goes to the ehobby insecticons....1/2 the stickers had no adhesive and the other half did not even get properly cut so you could remove them....that is why i have three completely stickerless insecticons except for having reprolabels unicron faction stickers on them!
in general I haven't had much trouble applying stickers, but wait till you take all that time to put them on & they start pealing off for no apearant reason (Encore Starscream)
Wow, nobody likes applying those seeker eye stickers. None of my seekers have those stickers either because its just too hard to apply correctly. If only Takara would color their faces for us.....
This is a good idea if you don't mind the fact that you're doing a tiny bit of customizing and if you have steady hands. I did the same thing with my TFC Starscream eye stickers. I had to use a pair of tweezers and the round end of a pen to push it into the right place, so it's very fiddly. Looks nice though, if you can do it. But if you apply the eye sticker the suggested way, it looks bad no matter what you do. It just doesn't fit without folding in an ugly way, or just floating over the eye sockets completely. If you're not gonna cut them up, it's better leave them off competely, in my opinion.
My Encore Sky Lynx had terrible stickers. The large ones on the sides of the shuttle started pealing almost immediately. I replaced them with (superior) reproductions labels from... Reprolabels.
That is a great idea. One step further would be to use a toothpick to apply them on as your fingers are obviously big and make it awkward to apply.
