James Wan is making this, so I expect it to be good. Ironically, it will be called Aquaman, King of Atlantis... so everyone will confuse it with that direct-to-DVD Throne of Atlantis movie for sure. And yes, it will be connected to the live action movie, it will tell the story of how he handles being king of Atlantis after the movie's events. https://www.herocollector.com/en-us/Article/aquaman-gets-animated
I hope the film cast can reprise their roles. And I wouldn't be surprised if it leads in to Aquaman 2. I also hope the animation will be good quality.
If handled well this could be interesting and I second that I'd like to see the original film cast do the voice acting for these. Especially if it's supposed to be a follow up to the first film and take place before the second film.
AQUAMAN: KING OF ATLANTIS Animated HBO Max Series Reveals First-Look Image I did not expect the Rick and Morty animation style. It better look good in motion.
Yes they clearly put a lot of budget and effort into this. Why do they think people like this art style? Though I must say they have done a great job capturing Amber Herd's inner evil.
Gumball? That show was full of differing, mostly clashing art and animation styles. This is more like Thundercats Roar, which itself is derivative of the stylistic trends that started with Adventure Time and Regular Show.
Top fucking kek. I was interested until I saw the first image of the show. I mean clearly they're failing in that regard if I can name like 10 other shows with a similar lazy style of art. This is just ugly.
The what and where? How are they failing when the show hasn't even aired yet and it's a three part short. And I can name a few shows that have that style that have succeeded because they found that audience.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... Not the (Teen) Thundercats Roar beanface style. Mera looks atrociously bad, what's wrong with her nose, and why is Arthur's hair green? And they both have cartoonishly thick mono-eyebrows. Are they werewolves? This just went from interesting to trainwreck for me, on that art style alone. I can't wait for this style to finally die out. It's worse than the time every western show tried to look like anime in the late nineties... Making every show have the same Teen Titans Go/Thundercats Roar/Seven Universe beanface/Calarts style is basically the opposite of a diverse art style.
I find it funny that people like to harp on Teen Titans Go and Steven Universe and forget how popular those shows are and how profitable they have been; Teen Titans Go has had 2 movies and is getting a spin-off series. Steven Universe has had 1 movie and a limited series and various shorts to this day. Also these shows are different enough that you can take the characters, stand them side-by-side and tell them apart. The point is the animation style that you would prefer would be too expensive and probably wouldn't be as profitable as this one.
Yo dude this is okay they just want TV shows these days to have more diverse art styles. Which makes it weird that so many of them look like they were made by the same CalArts graduates with few exceptions. I find it funny that you think just because something makes money and is 'profitable' means that it's good content objectively. If anything the fact that those two shows did so well just paints a sad image of general audiences and how low their standards seem to be. Obviously being financially successful is a good thing, but if the content in question is poorly made crap then it feels like a waste. Different enough but not really that different when you look into how they're made. Usually anything worth doing will cost more to make happen, but it would be more respectable then this continuous copy-paste crap CN, Nick and other cartoon networks offer these days. The most by-the-numbers and generic Anime titles will still look like more effort went into them then the majority of the crap they shovel onto kids these days. People 'harp on' these shows because they aren't good, them making money doesn't shield them from criticism.
lol "objectively" Something being profitable is their entire goal. It's the entire goal of any network, any movie studio, whatever, that green lights a project like this. No one at the executive level is trying to create art. No one is trying to enrich humanity. They are trying to generate profit. But guess what? If some project with an art style like this has been profitable for them, that means a large audience of people enjoyed it. Regardless of what you think is good content "objectively".
