So the second of my custom dinobots was Scorn, who is my favorite of the AOE figures thus far. I kept a very similar paint treatment between all of the dinobots so they were visually coherent, all of it being my interpretation of course. I base coated the figure with a matte black paint, then I sprayed a hammered metal effect silver paint over most of the pieces of the base coat. After that, I spent a while dry brushing and washing in various grays, black, rust, and browns over the silver, allowing some of the hammered metal effect to shine through in parts. I also left the head out of the hammered metal painting as I felt a matte black would help break up the figure a little bit, so I went over the face plate, the crest, and the rear panel of the bucket-head with silver, then I gave him a red visor. I also painted the dino eyes red rather than blue as the cgi suggests, but I felt the team meshed together with all red eyes. In addition, I kept the weapon matte black except for the outline which I did in the same silver as the face. Feel free to leave a comment or a suggestion, or both!
I really like what youve done to these guys.... But i feel you need to add a little bit of green and teal to them as well......i dont mean to nitpick , but shoudnt scorns eyes be blue....since thats what weve seen in the trailers?? ☺️
Really nicely done. Did you experience any issues with the paint reacting poorly to the soft plastic parts?
I did consider doing a greenish wash but I was kinda on the fence about it, so I didn't quite want to do that only for me to not like it quite as much as much as I saw some impressive iterations done so. The eyes were painted red due to the fact that I felt red eyes helped draw together the team of Dino bots, and I just prefer my dinobots with red eyes. If you check out my Voyager Grimlock you could see what I mean with the eyes. And as for painting the soft rubber portions, it really wasn't difficult once I figured out what I needed to do. If I painted the soft rubber and only gave it a day to cure, it would still be tacky, so I gave those parts extra time to cure. Thanks for the comments guys!
