It always seemed to me that his height was impossible to discern based on the camera angle and position of characters. If you think so tho, I’ll give it another look. It’s only one scene so picking it apart is always convenient to say the least.

The usual round of shots to work with:

    Forgot to explain…

I developed a way for measuring scale in SS where you measure heights following a math formula (y=2x-8) wherein y is real robot height (in ft) and x is the figure’s height (in cm). Although the equation becomes less consistent the larger the figure (especially Leaders and Voyagers like Optimus, Starscream, Megatron and Grimlock) the stunning degree of consistency in the smaller size classes made me think this was intentional.

    Some examples:
    1. Arcee (ROTF): 7.5cm - 7ft
    2. Jazz: 11.5cm - 15ft
    3. Bumblebee: 12cm - 16ft
    4. Crosshairs/Hot Rod: 12.5cm - 17ft
    5. Ratchet/Lockdown: 14cm - 20ft
    6. Ironhide: 15cm - 22ft
    7. Blackout: 18.5cm - 29ft

Of course there’s an intentional scaling method used. The SS line prioritizes scale. But even then, they’re limited by budget, time, and engineering challenges. And it shows. Still way too many inconsistencies even among the deluxe scale figures to use SS as a reliable or definitive source of scale.

I like your formula though. I just convert the robot height from feet to inches and then divide it by the scale that a figure is using. As I mentioned earlier, Prime is using 1:50 scale. Wish all the figures could use that one. 1:45 scale would probably work out better tho.

Follow up to my old attempt at scaling Grindor:

This time I used a scene where Grindor and Prime can more clearly be scaled together.

    E257EDCE-91CC-446A-9AAA-1BA35CEA2C7A.jpeg

Using Prime’s 32 foot height again, this shot shows that Grindor is 62 feet tall, not 57 like the other more vague shots that I used showed. If Prime was 28 feet in the scene, Grindor would be 55 feet tall. As for Grindor’s downscaled height that appears in a few shots, I still have that at around 38 feet. That hasn’t really changed.

Edit: this scale work is outdated

I present the custom created superfund truck, this took a hot minute to make 1671771434483_image.png
I found a custom robot mode for him (im guessing its made with pieces from the junkheap cons) and added the doors from my truck to make it that bit better 1671771436063_image.png 1671771438146_image.png

Exactly. Dude is one lanky ass boi. Didn’t even need to eat the proverbial Mega Mushroom to shift between his sizes.

Which does raise the question as to why SS had to have him turn into an enlarged Lambo when realistically speaking HasTak engineers could’ve made him a regular car and tall robot.

Probably has something to do with the fact that his SS figure technically isn't a new mold. They just reused the deluxe TLK Barricade transformation scheme and called it a day. I'm hoping that one day we get a voyager Lockdown with an actual original transformation and all (or most) of his accessories. With an engineering budget like that, they could easily have a lanky robot of his nature fold and compress down into a little lambo alt like you said. And hey, if Sam Smith was in charge of the project, we'd also probably get a clearer look at Lockdown's official ILM render. One can only hope though.

Trying to use Trench’s only robot mode scene to figure his height out yielded nothing definitive. I’m just gonna give him Hound’s height since both characters are large warrior types with similarly sized vehicles. Helps Trench scale better with his excavator as well:

On a better note though, here’s what I got for Megatron’s 07 jet mode:

I appreciate how you give evidence for your sizes. The graphic design is already great, the transparency in the rationale behind them just compliments it amazingly :D

Thanks bro, I try my best. Your scale work is also great. Still thinking about that formula you came up with.

Also, I did my best to track the height of Trench’s excavator mode during his transformation scene (dodgy as hell I know), and it seems like his hydraulic scoop arm rises to somewhere around his waist/abdomen/lower torso area when you compare the two. Doesn’t really help at all, but it at least affirms that the ballpark for his height is somewhere in the 20-25 foot range (when measuring at his head). I think I’ll put him at 22 feet since that scales slightly better with his excavator and still keeps him similar in size to Hound.

    so i noticed something weird
Devcon from DotM has 12 wheels on him but then is supposed to turn into the MAZ-543 Uragan Scud B... which only has 8 wheels upload_2022-12-26_22-33-43.png
I believe he might be an MAZ-547 upload_2022-12-26_22-33-56.png
    which has 12

28ft being his overall height, head height is like 25ft or something

It’s possible. This wouldn’t be the first time a character’s vehicle has changed from concept to movie form. Could also be a Dropkick case tho, where the vehicle kibble is inaccurate to the vehicle. Would love for an SS Devcon figure to give us the answers and the CGI model we’ve been waiting for.

For him to fit the MAZ-543, he woulda been a lot smaller, but the size i have him as for the MAZ-547 matches it and does fit for his size in a scene I looked into
(Yes the MAZ-547 still has the 543 name under it, forgot to change it)

Gotta remember the weird angle that the concept art is positioned at. Makes everything in the front look way bigger and everything in the back look way smaller. Makes scaling it with a vehicle kind of screwy. I get what you’re saying tho, a larger vehicle is always preferable when dealing with these bigger cons (although I believe Devcon may have been oversized in one scene. I’ll have to doublecheck).

Something else that’s weird to note is that Devcon’s concept art features both his smaller vehicle mode and his mismatched vehicle kibble. Meaning during the concept phase, Devcon was designed with a certain vehicle in mind, likely the larger one, and then it was switched to the smaller one for some reason. Perhaps there were plans at one point to actually feature the vehicle on set, but they realized it would be too expensive and opted for a smaller one before scrapping the plans entirely? (Similar to what happened with Devastator and his insanely mismatched concept art) What I wouldn’t give to see what was going on behind the scenes of these crazy films lol
