While I always knew I wanted to get the voyager for it's vastly superior Dino mode (I'm not usually overly critical of toys, but god does that "trex" look awful) I always thought this one did have a nice robot mode; but with the chrome, and those crappy ratchet joints, it just looks really bad. It also really bothers me that neither the voyager, leader, or any other grimlocks actually do the shoulder pads right. They all do the top jaw splitting in half thing, while the bottom jaw just hides away thing, while the silhouette we saw of him a while back, clearly had one shoulder pad as the bottom jaw, and one as the top...which (while I'm obviously no expert on the toy design) doesn't even seem like it would have been that hard in toy form.

I think this is another piece of evidence that collectors are not Hasbro's primary demographic target. A little boy sees a chromed out dinosaur and it's gonna be all tears, puppy dog eyes and leg pulling. Mommy pweese? I wanna shiny Gwimwock!

Hey Unique Toys, Take a swing at a Not Grimlock please!

I don't hate on him for lack of articulation, if I did, I wouldn't want Generations Skids (0.0 degrees of outward shoulder articulation), it's mostly that ridiculously long dino torso, I feel like I should put some suspenders and big ol' glasses on him and have him saying "Did I do that???"

That being said, I'll probably still get him, just wait till Target has a sale on him...

Wow. Definitely saving myself the $45 I might've dropped on this guy. Voyager looks better to me in both modes.

And whatever happened to leader class toys having electronics? Couldn't they have worked in some kinda roar with light-up eyes or something? At least?

Ugly design = ugly figure. Can't completely blame Hasbro/Takara for this turd.

Welp, got myself a signature finally. That's hilarious. Eh, the robot mode is decent, but dino mode....I guess I'll go for the Voyager.

    Can we get pics of:

-robot mode with the lower leg spikes deployed?

    -back of robot mode.

-can weapons store one robot body? Can that shield thing store on his body?

Well that's disappointing. The only thing I can think of is its designed to be displayed with voyagers. Cause leader class it ain't imo.

But I heard that the quality on these toys is actually pretty darn good. Sometimes I absolutely hate it when people like you make a big deal out of toys not meeting your expectations when you can easily just modify it.

There is nothing wrong with the character design itself; this is just a bad toy. lol at people using it as an excuse to rant about how they hate bayformer design (You know, for the millionth time) as if that's the cause for bad engineering.

Yeah, a badass robo-dragon/T-rex thing could easily be an awesome alt-mode for a toy, but unfortunately that's the thing they screwed up the most. And the robot mode just looks spindly and kind of fragile. It's a really bad adaptation of the design, not the design itself.

While the other Dinobots ive seen are slowly growing on me..I just have not seen a toy of AOE Grimlock, that looks worth a shit to me.

In all honesty...I think that massive one step is probably the best grimlock Ive seen yet. Im a leader completionist...I don't even want this. Im sure Grilock will look cool on screen...The CGI shadow pics remind me of "Hellknight" From "MACE:The Dark age" N64 game..but every one of these toys just look horrid to me. too bad.

I appreciate the review though. Thanks!

I thought it was a crap toy at Toy Fair, the final version somehow seems even worse.

    Thanks for the review.

Wow, seeing it next to ROTF Optimus makes me sad. Was actually looking forward to this figure a bit. May have to get the giant turdy looking one just for size.

Edit: Ugh, if it is the "best" representation (not counting the Voyager since it is even smaller), I will probably have to get it eventually, but I am damn sure waiting for a sale on a lot of these. I can do without lights and sounds, but substantial downsizing (and simplification) within a line (I consider movie toys a line) is somewhat annoying. same thing with the new Generations figure (namely Hoist and Trailbreaker).
