So far just bot shots... went movie accurateish on the color scheme, rebuilt the wrists and added articulated hands, finished out the back of the helmet, and put a ball joint in on the neck.
Great stuff! Love the photos. Does the paint stick to the rubbery parts OK? And did you paint directly over the chrome or remove it?
Prep work- removed the chrome and other metalics with a wire brush on a dremel. Strippers run the risk of damaging the plastics used. From what I could tell he's got roughly 3 types in him. The wire brush also helps give texture for the primer to adhere and I gouged a few places with it for scarring/and or to give structure for rust. He was then washed with a light detergent, dried and then primered. The rubber/nylon parts took about 5 days to cure properly. If you paint over a metallic finish you run the risk of two things: 1. your paint will flake off after it fully cures or with very little handling 2. the paint will etch into the old layer and it will begin to crackle and then flake off losing both layers. If you are going to paint try as best as you can to use the same types of paints with the same carrier/thinner. Many types will eat the other. If you cannot tell from the label use your nose.
