It bothered me for a long time, as I assume it did many of you, that Hasbro got lazy and just put the whole truck on Galvatron's back. But now, after seeing the movie, it makes total sense. His robot mode has no trace of the truck because it has no need of one. The nature of his transformation now renders it moot. So, having a shell on the back of the toy, actually accomplishes the feat of the movie by having two totally distinct modes in one figure. The movie cheated on special effects here, and so does the toy. I take it back, Hasbro... pretty crafty, in the end. ALSO... I like the fig a lot more than I thought I would. Quick and easy, just how I like 'em (and yes, I mean women).
I'm probably going to pick one up when I can get it for a good deal. I've only seen him once in-store so far and he does look much better in person.
I could already tell at Toy Fair that the robot design didn't allow for large vehicle parts to be visible (same with Prime and Bee), so I like it for all the molded-in details and how good the truck mode is. Also, I like when all the kibble forms a solid backpack like Galvy and First Edition Prime have rather than it hanging everywhere or just folding up loosely on the back.
LOL, I can imagine being in the room when the designers first seen the designs for movie Galvatron and his "transformation" conversation going something like this. Designer 1: "Umm... ok" Designer 2: "Seriously what the?" Designer 1: "How in the... What in the?" Designer 3: "Well,... I guess we could like maybe... I really don't know" Designer 2: "Forget this I'm transferring back to the generations line"
Yeah, it all made sense to me when I saw the movie, too. Frankly, I think that AoE Galvatron sucks. I just didn't have any fun with him at all. The only time I've returned a figure to the store because I didn't like it (rather than something being wrong with it). But I don't actually have a problem with how he transforms in the movie. Yeah, it's DEFINITELY why the toy sucks, and it's cheating as hell... but it DID look kinda cool.
I love the toy's mold, but what kills me is the lifeless paint apps... Or lack thereof. The flat cheap grey and tan doesn't do the rich detail justice, and looking at the Takara release just disappointed me, because Takara doesn't seem to care either. Pics love some of the radicon paint jobs, but I don't have the skill to do that. Or the $$$ to hire someone.
It made sense without knowing what was in the movie when you see the trailers it's obvious they robot has no vehicle parts on it without knowing about the transformium.
Galvatron really needs a good paint job. Hasbro needs to make a Kreo Galvatron. That is the most accurate transformation you can get him in toy form.
This is the big thing. I may wait for a repaint with more detail, but I just hate that backpack. And I really like seeing truck / car bits on my TFers. I think it just translates better.
