Ever have one of those projects where it just doesn't seem to feel right? Currently having one of those with Drift. I honestly disliked this toy the moment I saw it so I knew it'd have to be worked on in order for it to look decent at least. I tried to go ahead and go with his comic look and I did take a few liberties but even still I feel like this just isn't going to work.

It isn't complete but I would like some feedback to see if I keep going or if he gets dunked and I start all over again.

How about instead of white you use silver or gunmetal, the white seems to wash out some of the detail. I know what you mean on this toy, but you aren't wrong for changing him up, I like what you are thinking, just not a fan of white samurai =) . hey, how about that? Paint him up red/burgundy and black and make him look like an actual samurai?? Although I do like white veyhrons..

I admit black and red would've been perfect but I really wanted to try to go for the Generations Drift look. I guess it just doesn't translate right to this mold.

Try a pearl white (if available) maybe? I think the flat white is throwing it off here for me, otherwise it looks good, throw a Cobra emblem and you have a neat take on Storm Shadow

How is this a fail? It looks pretty awesome!

How about instead of using a Cherry Red, you use a more vibrant red color to get the Generations Drift look you want. Also, try to add some blue-ish gray to his robot bits so it can match Generations Drift better.

I think it's the head. While the figure does look good in those colors, you're right that it doesn't scream IDW Drift. Slap a Drift head on there and I think it'll improve the look.

If anyone would like to do this but better I'd love to see it, I'm honestly surprised no one here has put one up yet. I think I will probably scrap this and go back to a more movie accurate Drift.

In the meantime I'll just enjoy my actual generations Drift. :D

Maybe only use white where the armor panels are? So a lot more silver or gunmetal for the robot parts. Also maybe edge the white armor panels with red (like the blue Cheetimus and I used to edge the black panels).

I wasn't very happy with mine until I added the gold and painted the black over the blue panels leaving the blue edging. Suddenly the thing started to come alive.

That's my best guess. Not sure if it helps. Good luck. I don't think it looks bad the way it is. It's already better than what Hasbro did and you aren't even close to done yet.

That head needs to be smacked off so it looks better.

Try panel lining it to bring out those details

    It don't look bad...

You know what popped in my head? Go get a cheap capt America figure, put the head on it, give the shield a post to hold onto and you have a crazy capt America Xover!

Yeah, I'll echo what others have said about using a pearly white rather than a flat white, and get those details in bot mode picked out with a wash or some panel lines. Personally, I'd be tempted to reverse the colours in car mode to metallic red with a white trim, that way in robot mode I think that the robot mode might pop a little more if you do that but still keep white arms and thighs. Might need to get someone to digibash that up.

I came across this Veyron deco the other day that I think if I'm feeling really brave I might attempt for him...

Ok, wow. That would be fantastic for drift in blue or red. But honestly that makes Prime's flames look like child's play. If you can pull it off, I can't wait to see it.

I'd love to try it, I honestly don't know where I'd even start, whether it would be better to spray blue and mask off then spray white, or vice versa, or whether I'd be better spraying white and then painting freehand, even the thought of that makes my hand shake! It's probably going to be a good long while before I even get my hands on a Drift to try it on so plenty of time to experiment. Gulp!

I think it looks great, but if you want to make it look even better, perhaps using a clear gloss coat over the white areas would help? That might help make the painted areas look more like plastic.
