So my (basically) little brother seen the new movie. When I asked what he liked about it, he said that "It was awesome! The ancient warriors are awesome!" I was thinking...ancient warriors huh? Then I realized, the actual term "Dinobots" was never really used in the movie. Interesting that a kid, from a seven year old standpoint, identifies then as the "ancient warriors."
^ They probably avoided that for obvious reasons Thanks for sharing the story it is strange to think there's people out there who watched AOE and didn't instantly recognize them as the Dinobots. I really liked the legendary warrior angle though
Well I guess if Cybertronians have been divided into Autobots and Decepticons for as long as they have been at war, (and the Dinobots are Autobots given that Slug has an Autobot insignia on his head and it's at least implied that the Knights are Autobots given Optimus's inclusion) there's no real in-story/in-universe reason for them to call themselves by a different faction name based on what they turn into, hence the Constructicons weren't called Constructicons in ROTF itself, they just happened to turn into construction vehicles (or a multitude of construction vehicles in Devastator's case), and the Dinobots just happen to have beast modes. But the fact that they do turn into giant Dinosaurs does still make them very distinctive.
Perhaps if they're in the next movie, a human will make a quip along the lines of- "Robot dinosaurs? What now, Dinobots?" and they'll introduce the name that way. Glad to hear your little brother enjoyed seeing them on screen
Damn you are right. Slug has an Autobot symbol on the head. That makes them Autobots. On the status of them being legendary warriors my theory is that the Knights are the Autobot equivalent of the Seekers. Oldest members of the Autobot faction.
If the knights come before the creation of the Autobots (Which occurred in response to the Decepticons) how come they have an Autobot symbol?
The Knights are basically among the first members of the Autobot faction. Note the first Decepticons were Seekers. Minions of the Fallen previously part of his exploration crew. Optimus being a Knight gives reason that they protected Optimus Prime from the Fallen's purge. When peace returned the Knights joined the Autobots. Either that or the Autobot symbol predates the Autobots themselves. Happened with the G1 cartoon that the Autobot symbol was originally a slave brand.
has he had any previous exposure to Dinobots in the past? If not, then Ancient Warriors is quite appropriate and no surprise at all just like how the general public and non-fans refers to Drift as the Samurai guy or Samurai robot
Well it's possible they just had the Autobot logo pop out like when Optimus Prime rescanned and had the logo appear.
Lol he basically is my little brother. In a nutshell, my grandmother (54)married my step grandfather (45) who is younger than her, they both raised me like a son, they divorced when I was a kid, he remarried, he then had two kids. So he is like my little brother. Lol just thought I would clear it up because why not? Anyhow, that would be a pretty smart way to actually introduce the "Dinobot" term .
I'm a bit surprised I didn't think how ordinary people from theater perceived they I think most people called them simply dinosaurs. It's cool that your brother called them "ancient warriors", that's right!
