These toys were some of my favorites as a kid (me and my bros had (Rotor)Storm, Flash, Hurricane, Boss and Stalker. I loved those molds and their engineering, but unfortunately they succumbed to 'rambunctious children syndrome' and I never did have thunderclash. And then when Machine Wars came out I was kind of done with TF at that point, and never did find a version of universe Soundwave when that mold got re-issued. Anyone else have interest in seeing these molds again or is it just me, lol?
Lovely sculpts, cool designs, but they were the last of the "What's Articulation?" era and for that reason they'll never get re-released except as nostalgia/commemorative releases....AAAND there's a lot of "true" G1 to get through before THAT'll happen.. D/L
Well, the larger sized figures (Thunder Clash, Skyquake, Stalker, and Rotorstorm) DID get recolored as part of both Machine Wars and Universe-1 (though TC didn't make it to that one). It's unlikely we'd ever see re-issues of the smaller guys, but not impossible per se. But really, I don't want re-issues. I want Generations figures of them
Of course, a number of the originals suffer from GPS issues... Another problem is that the toys no longer meet modern safety requirements, what with their tiny, tiny missiles. Any "reissues" would be severely neutered. Universe Soundwave and King Atlas were short their handguns, and Universe Whirl had comical looking guns, with Energon Omega Supreme's missiles jammed into Rotorstorm's launchers.
There was a time when I would have been very interested in getting these figures (whether original or reissue). That time is long in the past, though. Updated versions a la CHUG though and we are talking.
And, as has been pointed out many times, Drift would be a great basis for Boss. (And we already got Scorch this year's Botcon, as well as a decent Skyquake and a mediocre Thunder Clash last year)
If they do reissue the Predators. How will they fix the GPS on Skyquake and the guns of the predators. besides toys like the Turbomasters and Predators, Need to be reinvented than to be reissued.
I agree, Just be careful with Skyquake and Thunderclash. Make sure you ask the seller if there's any GPS issues. I got mine over a period of a year. They are a lil bit rare, but the demand doesn't seem that high. Things might of changed with the recent Botcon set however.
I'll keep my eyes open on ebay. Some guy from greece has stalker and rotorstorm on ebay but is looking for 150 bucks a piece, is that worthwhile?
I'd love to complete these guys. I've only managed Boss and Snare so far. Did quite well for Boss -- $27 sealed a year or two ago. Snare (again, sealed) cost me almost twice as much at BotCon last month. The only ones I've seen on eBay recently have been downright nuttily priced: $200 each. Sure, they were nice sealed specimens, but please.
I've got the originals. Great, understated toys. They deserve a lot more recognition than they get. Same design team also did the Takara Brave of Legend Da Garn toys I think - I see similarities in the way the heads are designed and light piping is used. Worth picking up. I'd be fully behind more of them as Botcon exclusives if they are up to the standards of Scorch who really went above and beyond. I've nothing against Thunderclash or Skyquake either, though they were not my first choice of molds for the guys.
It took me about six months to find all these guys complete, with Skyquake being the hardest to find in good condition-complete. The yellow missles for the turbomasters are a pain in the ass to find. I got lucky and got a sealed Thunderclash for $90. My favorite have to be the Predators. I love the European garish colors to go along with their "Evil" bios lol.
