I'd assume this is the correct place to post this but anyway... I don't know many people who collect DVDs so I thought'd I'd ask here if anyone else does. Despite having Netflix, Hulu, & Amazon Prime Video I still feel like the options are lacking even when you throw in DirectTV. So in a way its also a good thing I collect movies since it gives me more options of what to watch or wanting to throw in a particular movie.

Sadly despite these options there are still movies out there that evade me, like currently I'm trying to track down a blu-ray copy of The Exorcist(not the Directors Cut), all four Scream movies, Candyman 2, & Robocop. I primarily use Amazon & Walmart.com as I'm not a fan of the shipping on Best Buy and I'm not a fan of Target in general. Collecting movies becomes extra hard for me as I'm a big fan of the Slasher genre and sadly a lot of older and lesser known flicks are harder to come by and with some not even on said streaming sites it becomes a lot harder for me to drop money on a movie I've yet to see.

So to anyone out there like me who loves movies and collect both DVDs & Blu-Rays do you have any alternative places/options to purchase DVDs & Blu-Rays?

Best way to buy Blu Rays and DVD's, for me, is just to go to thrift stores and other used shops locally. I've picked up the majority or my collection, for like under $5 each.

Oh, and Big Lots is also a great place.

I've got over 2000 BDs and DVD, but I buy most of my stuff from physical stores such as Best Buy, Target, and Barnes & Noble. However, when I have to order online, I will use Rightstuf if it is anime related, otherwise, it really varies. I'll still buy most of my stuff from Best Buy's website, but sometimes I have no choice but to go to Amazon for certain things and I wish I didn't have to.

You could try https://www.deepdiscount.com/, DiabolikDVD – Demented Discs from the World Over, or I've heard good things about Bullmoose (never used them myself though).

Depends. I got tons of stuff. If it is a new release, i go to Walmart or Target. I'll check the $5 bins for anything good too. For hard to find things or obscure stuff I go to Amazon. But for old stuff i go to resell places. There is a used book store I haven't been to for a while I might go today. But the other place is called Super Mega Replay. Used DVDs, blu rays, games, etc. Most dvds are about $3 and Blurays are $5 or so. Newer stuff or tv sets are more expensive.

I have a list of things I am looking for. Either Stuff I haven't seen in ages or never seen but want to. I keep my list on my ipod. Anytime i go there i open up the list and start hunting.

I get good deals. I listen to a movie review podcast, Now Playing, and theyrecently were doing Viral Outbreak films. Contagion was on there so I got it to watch for $3 on bluray. Good movie. Also picked up Rain Man for $3 on dvd. Definitely was $3.

only issue i have with the used ones is getting the price sticker off.

I will always buy Bluray and dvd. I've wanted to watch few different movies recently. Not on Hulu, Netflix, or Prime. So crap outta luck. I hate that.

Oh, if you know the studio that made the film, try looking up if they have a store. Some studios do a print on demand copy. It is how you can get obscure stuff. Got Condorman from Disney's store.

I buy blu-ray/dvd on whatever I'm wanting. I DON'T COLLECT dvd,blu-ray just to buy a physical copy but i also DON'T buy digital DL either. I really don't like it and 2 a kindle can't store a ton for space is a thing for me. I try and buy boxsets or seasons etc so not so much room took up. I mostly buy cartoons and 80's tv shows like Knight Rider and A-team big box set with all 5 Seasons. I will buy a single dvd movie if it's really good and I've wanted it for so long and finally have funds to buy it.

I sell off all of my digital copies. I've spent $260 on rebuying the MCU films in 4K in the last few weeks and made $120 on the the digital copies.

Well at least I was able to get Robocop on blu-ray today. The Walmart I work at had the entire trilogy on blu-ray for less then 10 dollars. I plan to spend my entire Saturday traveling out of town and stopping at as many Walmarts, Targets, & Gamestops as I can find so I might try to find a Best Buy or two to look inside for some blu-rays I'm looking for. Thanks for the tips!

Among other things, in particular I buy 3D-Blurays. That's something streaming doesn't offer, so it's not hard to justify.

I still purchase an occasional blu-ray/dvd/digital combo pack of a movie. I love those, basically three copies for just over the price of one. For tv shows, I have begun purchasing some season sets digitally. But if there's a show that I never got around picking up when it was released on dvd, I usually go to amazon. I love amazon.

I had an idea that I wanted to throw out there, and I figured this was a pretty good thread to do so in- does anyone have interest in custom slip covers?

I too love collecting physical movies- usually I collect, well “collections,” such as marvel boxed sets or Star Wars collections where all of the cases or steelbooks or slip overs match eachother

the issue is, collections always become outdated. I bought this beautiful collection of steelbooks for the Star Wars OT and PT, but they have never made anything for the ST or anthology films to match. I wanted to start custom creating slip covers that would go over your existing blue ray cases, and the covers would in some way all tie together, and be a cohesive series. I still have a lot of research to do, but it’s a strong possibility. I may start up an Etsy revolving around this idea. Who has interest in that kind of thing? Does anyone else get annoyed at the lack of consistency in packaging like I do?

Honestly one of the worst examples is the marvel phase collections- I had the first two collections that came with all of the physical goodies, but then they never made a phase 3 set, instead making the infinity saga boxed set. But I ended up getting all of the UK collections since they did phase 3 haha

Not really. Most of the time I tend to throw out my slip covers (or sell some off) because I find them to be rather annoying when only some movies have them and others don't.

I have kept a couple if they had different artwork on them compared to the cover art depending on the condition and I do keep some of my anime slips for autograph purposes. I like to display things I get autographed, so it's easier to display a slipcase that is frame than to just have an autograph on a cover that is on the shelf.

I went to Goodwill... they had a wall of CDs and DVDs...

I picked up the Rami Spiderman movies for decent price.

My LCS started buying a few CD and DVD collections recently. They hadn’t done that before.
