There's a thread over in the Toy Discussion that got me thinking about the old Diaclone drivers. They were awesome. Even with their giant blocky feet. If someone like Dr Wu or that Headmasters guy made some reproductions I would jump at the chance to buy them. I don't care if they don't fit into any Transformer fiction, I think being able to put pilots in a bunch of G1 figures just adds to the fun factor. Does anybody else out there agree? Would you buy some quality KO's of these guys? Board member Genetic pointed out there's a guy in the Radicons section who made some repros and they're cool, but I'm talking about some factory produced figures with real metal and magnets. At Fred's Workshop if you go to the Transformers Variants page, then Pre-Transformers-Diaclone page, then scroll down to the Diaclone Drivers Archive section, there are pics of the different drivers. Several I didn't even know existed. Thanks to board member turboedguy for that link. If a thread like this already exists, the search feature didn't find it.
Apparently it's just you I think that most TF collectors aren't particularly interested in Diaclone and the ones that are really don't want repros. However, I think that as you said, a company like Dr Wu could do a run of 300 or something small and if it were at a reasonable price (as most DW releases are) then I think they'd sell. Maybe it's worth you pitching the idea to them as they do listen to the community and/or "borrow" ideas from it
I love Microman and I like when they put Microman related products in the Transformers Brand like : Kicker, Ganemeade, or the new Racing team girls. But I don't especially have a need for Diaclones - but I can see how they might suit something like Optimus' Trailer. Perhaps a better idea is to make tiny representations of key humans from the fiction of a size that can fit inside 1980's Optimus and the other Diaclone derived vehicles.. I would actually quite like to see some sort of blend of Transformers and Microman like what was done to some extent with Microman 99 but under the Transformers brand name - perhaps a 70's style Microman (or an update of that) with a Transformers Motorcycle they can ride upon. Diaclones are similar in look to the Original body style of Microman/Micronauts but they are still different enough to allow for some wiggle room on how they look. and things like Kicker and the humans in futuristic outfits from the various shows are also quite friendly to having figures of them in that style. But if asked what Transformers related humans I'd like it would probably be June and Fowler for Transformers Prime.
I could go for some Diaclone Drivers with new, unique sculpts. Something that would not be confused with the original, and people who have the real things might actually want.
THIS is what needs to happen. I have the 3rd Party Spike and Sparkplug guys who are sized to Diaclone standards, and Has/Tak was heading in the right direction with MP Screamer's Dr. Archeville. They're great additions to the line if you care about the non-robot characters. Even though I don't have many bots in my collection with functional cockpits at this point (MP Screamer is nearly it these days), the Diaclone format is part of the brand legacy, and naturally humans at that size scale well to the robots (go figure ) I'd love a line from Has/Tak (or a 3rd party) that was like Human Alliance but scaled to fit with the normal classics line (or the vontage diaclone line, if you want to split hairs). The play value is limited though, so I see why it's not playing out that way But yeah, someone get me a diaclone-scaled Carly stat, and I'll troop build the crap out of Diaclone scaled EDC troopers
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/commi...-real-repro-diaclone-drivers-cast-demand.html try one of our owns stuff, i caught this thread the other day and looks like he maks some awesome quality stuff.
I would also be interested in some diaclone dudes, I would also be into having all the cast members in the same scale.
I like the idea, but it would depend on the execution of the final product on whether I would buy or not.
As Composite Chost said in the second paragraph of the first post in this thread (quoted below), he's aware of those but he's talking about ones that are factory made and come with the magnetic feet which those don't.
If the quality, fidelity, and accuracy were excellent, and the prices were low enough, definitely! ESPECIALLY if the rarer ones (Waruder, etc.) were made.
The link Megatron31 posted is different from the one I found. The drivers in the thread I saw were all plastic and painted to resemble the originals. These look spectacular.
