The articles I read on the matter mentioned that people, not goods, can spread the virus, so I'm not too worried for packages I received or future orders. In case there will be new developments I'll act accordingly.

Does the cargo space of an airplane (or cargo planes in general) even have climate control? If not, isn't it freezing temperatures in there and thus wouldn't the virus freeze to death?

I've heard reports of victims who ordered Fanstoys figures, and ended up getting lupus. So watch out.

The only thing I worry about packages from China is the length of time it takes to get them

If the two-week quarantine post-LNY is successful, things could be back up and running before the end of February:

Yeah, I'm far more worried that packages are going to get "lost" during this quarantine. I have one who's last update is processed through Wuhan EMS facility 16 days ago. Since that's ground zero for the virus, I'm wondering how much longer I should wait before I just open a paypal dispute on it.

It is technically an option to divert heat to the belly cargo bays, but most airlines wire it "on" permanently, as it is known as the "dead dog switch" for a reason. The money saved by NOT doing so, is nothing compared to the lawsuits dealing with a pet that arrived DOA. You don't ever want to forget to make the belly bays habitable when something's down there... (plus, even if it's just luggage, a lot of stuff doesn't deal very well with super-cold temps for extended periods---all your toiletries and many electronics (batteries) would be toast)

Also, dedicated cargo planes (FedEx, UPS, and the cargo divisions of most major Asian airlines) always have the upper/main deck heated all the time, as it's no different than the passenger version, and the pilots will still need to walk back there to use the bathrooms and the coffee maker... (plus, they tend to have "live" shipments on the main deck quite often, or at least things that are highly sensitive--anything from fresh flowers, to pandas) They can/will adjust the temp of course, but it's not like the range is "between freezing and boiling"----it'll pretty much just be between "feels like it's freezing, but isn't actually THAT cold" and "plenty warm enough for those valuable tropical fish someone's paying $100,000 to fly over". The main deck will never get to literal freezing/virus-killing cold, even when set as low/money-saving as possible. (Because, again, a LOT of cargo/baggage won't do well for hours and hours at freezing temps)

We may joke about and infer what may happen, but just in case anyone was wondering how seriously the authorities are taking this, my fiance is a senior paramedic with the LAS (London Ambulance Service), and she just finished a series of night shifts... she told me they're overwhelmed with calls where they're having to check for this virus, and one of the first things they have to ask is whether the sick person has had any contact with anyone who's recently been to China, or if they've received any post from China. Obviously they're having to err on the side of caution, but they're not taking any chances, and I would ecpect the same would be said for most authorities across the globe.
