i saw a youtube video stating some medical professionals claiming there is no organic material for the virus to survive on during the long shipping process. however, seeing as how the chinese government initially covered up this outbreak and World Health Organization claiming they do not need to step in/intervene, who are we suppose to believe? are you guys gonna risk it?

i decided the only area of question, since i had a taped takara figure, was the inner part of the shipping package and the outer part of the box. so i opened it, left it on the porch. Threw away the shipping box. washed my hands. left the shipping box out over night. cut the tape removed the figure. washed my hands

now my figure is warming up and the box is still outside

I wouldn't worry, the coronavirus doesn't survive longer than 48 hours at room temp. It won't survive the lengthy delivery times from China that the majority of us experience waiting for packages.

As a healthcare professional who was exposed to a milder strain 8 years ago at a nursing facility I'm pretty confident in my statement. I have 2 packages currently in transit so I'm not worried.

From being in the same room as a carrier, then sure. From packaging shipped overseas that took longer than 2 days to get to you, not a chance.

 

as a medical professional wouldn't it just be a better idea to recommend against people ordering things from there until this blows over? or since they haven't banned people from traveling you figured its not that much of a difference in risk?

 

Not really as it would just create a false panic. There's plenty of information online from the CDC regarding this so people will know what is the best way to avoid infection.

 

i understand that. however, china didn't' want to create a false panic and look what it turned into. if they took the proper precautions since the beginning would we be in the current situation?

 

Chances are, anything ordered right now won't be leaving mainland China for quite some time, due to the current and impending lock downs.
If your package isn't already in transit and, by some snowball's chance in hell, the virus managed to survive more than 24 hours without a host, it's not going to last the wait for the greenlight for international transit, when it finally comes.
