I'm just curious if there is any word on a new home release for the 1986 movie? It's been out of print for years and is way expensive on the aftermarket these days.

There is one on Blu-ray...in the UK.

I really would like this, and a BD release of the G1 cartoon...but yeah.

    Ebay:
Also in Australia and New Zealand.

Speaking of the release itself though, it looks pretty damn good. The picture quality is really sharp and the colors are nice and vibrant. The only bad thing about it is that its cropped to 16:9, meaning the top and bottom of the picture is all black bar when the film was actually animated in 4:3.

Other than that though, highly recommend picking it up if you don't manage to get a US release.

    Ebay:
It was photographed in 4:3 with the intention of being cropped to 16x9 when viewed, Like every 16x9 movie ever made

I just bought a used 20th Anniversary edition for $19 shipped on Amazon. The discs were fine. Not BluRay, but good enough for me.
