Thanks Nevermore, very informative. Is Hirofumi Ichikawa the artist that drew the smokescreen and tracks images on the reissue boxes? If it is I love his art! The need to start making image galleries over at Takara/Hasbro with all the new TF box art.
And I agree that a dinobot giftset would rock the casbah!

The Galvatron reissue also has all new sounds and was also remolded to take 2 AAA batteries rather than a 9V. Not cheap, I'm sure. I hope he's profitable enough to justify the rumoured Shockwave release.

Shockwave will never happen. neither hasbro or takara have rights to the mold. he's one of those figures they just licensed from another company. just like Jetfire, Shockwave will NEVER be re-issued.

More than likely, but unlike Jetfire it's not licensed from an extremely well known property and currently held by a huge rival toy company.

Also unlike Jetfire and several other early G1s, Shockwave was actually released in Takara packaging back in the day.

Not saying that makes the difference, but it is A difference.

my understanding is that they DO in fact have the rights to shockwave now. they didn't in the past, but through acquisitions, they now do. I could be wrong though, but I swear I read that here somewhere.

These are the TFC reissues which use Ichikawa art:

    No.3 Skids
    No.4 Tracks
    No.5 Smokescreen
    No.8 Inferno
    No.9 Starscream
    No.11 Astrotrain
    No.13 Hot Rodimus
    No.14 Hound
    No.17 Blitzwing
    No.18 Soundblaster

Here's the corresponding Hasbro CS reissues that use the same artwork:

    Commemorative Series V Autobot Tracks
    Commemorative Series VI Smokescreen
    Commemorative Series VIII Skids
    Commemorative Series IX Astrotrain

Also, the "Dreamwave" artwork for the TFC reissues apparently wasn't done directly for the reissues, but is rather taken from the artwork used for the Dreamwave G1 vol. 1 covers and posters:

    No.1 Meister - Pat Lee "Autobot" cover of G1 vol. 1 #2
    No.2 Prowl - Pat Lee "Autobot" cover of G1 vol. 1 #2
0 Convoy - Pat Lee "movie" poster to promote the upcoming DW G1 vol. 1 series
No.6 Megatron - Pat Lee "movie" poster to promote the upcoming DW G1 vol. 1 series
    No.7 Lambor - Pat Lee "Autobot" cover of G1 vol. 1 #4
    No.10 Soundwave - Pat Lee "Decepticon" cover of G1 vol. 1 #5
No.12 Minibot Team - Pat Lee "Autobot" cover of G1 vol. 1 #3
    No.16 Insectrons - Pat Lee "Decepticon" cover of G1 vol. 1 #3

Still unaccounted for is the artwork for No.15 Stepper, which is also used for the Hasbro counterpart, Commemorative Series IX Ricochet.
The style certainly looks very "Dreamwave"-ish, but I have no clue regarding the artist. Thoughts?

Takara/Tomy bought the company that owned Shockwave's mold, not the same company that owned Jetfire and the others. (Corporate takeovers are sometines your friend.) They have the legal right to reissue him, and they've started a trend of reissuing large Geewun toys with electronics, like Galvatron and Star Convoy.

So you're wrong. If it's any consolation, you USED to be right. :D

(Hey staff, what's a pixle limit? *looking down*)
