Pretty much. It was directionless. The closest thing that show had to a plot was KARR, but he was basically crammed into like half an episode or something. And yeah, KITT as a character was the best part of the show. He turned into a classic mustang since, well, KITT was a mustang in that show. Also, it had fucking horrible CGI except for, like, two instances.
Kit was more than just Diverless, even before super pursuit mode he could outrace planes, he was nigh indestructable, and he had turbo boot, and several other tricks including a laser. They can easily up his hacking ability Have a better heads up display in the car and more tech features. Focus on car chases and stunts. Have Micheal have more hands on tech Kitt assists with. If they are going full reboot, go back to the classic Micheal long origin and quest for revenge. Make the people who shot him in the face even more evil and harder to take down. Have him have to take down several people and work his way up to the big boss. Don't worry about transforming, focus more on the fact the car can't be destroyed. Micheal is safe inside of kit, but he isn't always in KIT and Kit can't always help him.
Fast and Furious and the new Star Trek movies are not really something to be proud of The car needs to be something sleek and aerodynamic that is not yet available, like a concept car. Not a muscle car. I don't like the look of those. They are too blocky. I want a sports car that is not only fast but also looks fast. Look at the camaro... that's just a blocky thing. Does not scream fast. They should also make some adjustments like they did with the original 1982 Trans Am and the custom front and stuff. Just make it something we can never have but that we would totally want. KITTs AI is still futuristic. We don't have something like this yet. KITT is basically sentient as if he had a soul. We are still far away from something like that. KITT was not amazing because he was a driverless car, but because he was Michael's best buddy.
Knight Rider strikes me as a show of its time, with it having some of the first supercars ever. Nowadays with lots of cars having computers in place, it can feel rather antiquated. But I hope that Justin Lin can find a way to make Knight Rider as awesome and never-before-seen as it was back then.
I think Kitt needs a comedian voice actor, or some one with good timing. Daniels, had good comedic timing with Kitt, his sarcastic/good natured personality really came through. You need a solid voice actor who can really do work as the straight man and be silly at the same time.
