Knight Rider To Get Digital Reboot From Justin Lin And Machinima - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movie, TV News
Meh. I wonder what kind of gimmick they'll steal from whatever's currently in---er, sorry, I mean, add onto into this version after they become convinced that a car that talks and has a mind of its own just isn't enough of a hook: "Coming soon! What could be cooler than a talking car? A whole TEAM of talking vehicles driven by hip young people!" "Coming soon! What could be cooler than a talking car? A talking car that TRANSFORMS into other vehicles!" "Coming soon! What could be cooler than a talking car? A talking car alongside a bunch of other characters we intend to spin off into their own shows because SHARED UNIVERSE!"
LOL! Again? It hasn't even been 10 years since the last reboot. I'd still be down for it if they cast right, though. I didn't really care for the main star on the last go-round, but Deanna Russo was hot and looked like Olivia Wilde's younger sister.
Provided he gets betrayed by the country he loves, first. Only if they give Airwolf an AI so it can bicker with KITT 3.0. - and that would be more transformersy than literally anything Michael Bay has done. Sounds like it'll be online only, which isn't a surprise since it would be a niche target audience anyway.
I imagine digital reboot means it has The Hoff and a Trans Am and everything in the 80s, just animated.
See, I thought that was called a "Web-Series". And if it's a CG series, I thought it would just be called that. "Digital Series" isn't something I remember ever seeing as a phrase. The last reboot wasn't, so maybe?
The last reboot was... okay. It got better. It had fun, tried shit, but I mean basically everyone forgot it even me, sadly. But there's nothing to get interested about this new one with no information besides "it's gonna happen maybe."
I think the main problem with the show was it really had no idea what it wanted to do. All of first season with the dad basically was thrown out when he died off screen and also the totally lame 'one of these characters dies!' promotion (where the dad died but also the one chick was taken out of the show because she got shot in the diaphram or something, which wasn't "death" but still) felt like a cheap cop-out. Come to think of it, I'd say it kind of is the same issue with the middle episodes of TF Prime except KITT as a character was far more interesting than any of the Autobots.
Digital only is something many companies are trying, CW has Vixen, the next Star Trek will be web only, both street fighter and Mortal combat had web only series. Playstation tried badly with that Powers series. Microsoft had the Halo series. Transformers had Combiner wars. It's why At&T is buying the WB, the next major content War for control will be online and everyone is now trying to stake their claim There has been a secret plan to try to make the web like Pay TV but watch groups and the FTC keep stopping it in favor of zero rating. But they keep lobbying for it. Those data limits will really come into play when everyone has 4k TV and eat up data like no tomorrow.
I thought the last reboot got pretty good after they did the mid-season soft reboot. Ditched most of the cast and took it down to Michael and a few others. Biggest thing they missed was one episode Michael told KITT to turn into something classic. That would have been the perfect time to have KITT become a Trans-Am but he became a 50's car or something.
I'll watch it. I grew up with reruns of the original show, and I actually really enjoyed the last reboot. Justin Lin is the perfect guy to bring it back too since he did four Fast and Furious movies and Star Trek Beyond. He's really good at working with a team dynamic and crafting action scenes even though he is just a producer on this. The only thing I'm concerned about is how the premise works now. Automated driverless cars are a reality now from several different companies. They need to find a way to make KITT futuristic without going overboard. As for the car, I think they either go back to the original Trans Am or use a modern Camaro ZL1.
