Yeah, not really sure how profitable this movie will be. Spider-verse is a great animated film but it is making okay numbers at best.

Kill two birds with one stone Adapt the Shadow Play storyline. Give Optimus some backstory, also tell some Cybertronian history.

That\'s fantastic news but Lorenzo is an idiot. An OP movie can be fantastic, there\'s a compelling story to be told especially his growth from Orion Pax to Optims Prime, same goes for Obi-Wan-- you know, one of the spin-off solo Star Wars movies people ACTUALLY wanted instead of the one we got. I\'m still furious they canceled James Mangold\'s Boba Fett movie. The solo format wasn\'t the problem it was that no one wanted a young Han Solo movie yet somehow they were shocked it did poorly and canceled all future plans for spin-offs. Over react much Disney!? Anyway, getting off track.... Yeah clearly there are still some people behind the TF movie franchise that are clueless and need to go, Bay wasn\'t the only problem just the biggest and most obnoxious.

Anytime I see a news story about the In house studio or writers room, for some reason all I can picture is the scene in elf where they are pitching stories.

Optimus isn't just the boring leader - and he doesn't get everything right. He can have severe self doubts and also have enjoys having fun - either with a clever quip in a fight or a basketball in his own time. Not everything he says needs to be some word of wisdom. He is also very caring. Also draw on that John Wayne side to him that Peter Cullen gives. Heck - let Peter have a say in the film as he knows the character so well.

He is much more 3 dimensional than current media make him out to be.

Optimus being a stoic, boring leader. Well... that's where I disagree.

Like @Jakedc1997 said they should look at the Shadowplay storyline and base the movie on that.

I'd be interested to see a prequel set entirely on Cybertron. Just as long as Bay and Lorenzo keep their greasy mitts off the film and let a director who cares about Transformers and wants to tell a good story do their job. Bumblebee was excellent, and as long as the next Transformers movie is closer to it than, say, The Last Knight, then we'll be fine.

Also, an Optimus Prime spin off can work if you either 1) take inspiration from the comic depictions where he goes through doubts and has to struggle to live up to people's expectations of him, or 2) go with a more G1 cartoon or TF: Prime depiction and focus on how he inspires others. For the story, just focus on his journey to Earth, or follow up on Bumblebee.

Finally, DECIDE. WHETHER. OR NOT. BUMBLEBEE IS A REBOOT. Either it's the start of a new continuity and you're retconning the Bay films, or it's a prequel that's retconning parts of the previous films. You can't have it both ways, and you're just coming across as incompetent by being indecisive.

Isn't Lorenzo himself that makes Optimus as a stoic, boring leader in the bay movies? Lol

Remember Blitzwing transforming from jet to robot mid flight (not a spoiler, it was in the BB trailer); When you said Penis transform, I imagined that transformation, but with a penis transforming into a clitoris.

That's how it comes across. "Yeah, we want to do Transformers films, but ehhh... Optimus Prime is kind of hard to do anything with... just have him show up in a Big Damn Heroes moment near the climax and give a speech at the end. That should cover it... and well, we could do Unicron, but... it's kinda big... We did build up to it, but ehhh... it's too hard..."

A good director should be able to make something as big as Unicron work in a movie, and someone who understands Transformers could make a good Optimus Prime movie. Lorenzo is an idiot.

Everything Lorenzo said about Optimus is exactly what makes it a great movie.

Yes. Hasbro and Paramount could draw inspiration from several alternate-universe iterations of Optimus if they had to. They could easily do a coming-of-age story where Orion Pax grows into his role as new leader of the Autobots and transforms himself into a better, wiser, and more compassionate person in the process. Anyone who doesn't understand how that could work doesn't understand Optimus Prime.

If they do decide that Bumblebee is a reboot, an Optimus Prime movie would be a great opportunity to focus on the relationship between Prime and Megatron. Flashbacks could focus on how their ideologies put them at odds with one another, which could set up the 'present day' return of Megatron.
