Update #3: First full prototype complete! God I'm so happy with him. Scrapper is a bit big, but I feel style and design wise he is about on point.

Designing the transformation was a nightmare, I was really keen to keep him as accurate as possible. I feel the result is a vehicle mode which is pretty slick and feels right while not, technically, being that accurate

More pics can be found in my latest comment bellow! Check him out and let me know what you think!

Update #2: CAD work is complete! Scrapper starts printing properly tonight. Expect a full prototype by the end of the week! Here is a final render for all those interested. All engineering should work, but we will know for sure once its in plastic form. I'm really happy with the final results

Update #1: done a fairly extensive number of small tweaks to proportions and part positions to produce a decently better iteration. Need to make all the joints all line back up, but should start full printing this evening

Original post: Finally continuing my line of animated customs, here is the animated scrapper I have been designing. I've been working on him on and off for a few months now, but I'm making a thread as I'm finally nearing the end of the project.

The goal is for him to be about voyager height, and fit in with the aesthetic of the animated toyline, so not a flawless recreation of the character model but close enough. While the vehicle mode is somewhat inaccurate, I feel it captures the spirit well and looks cohesive enough

At present I have begun test printing. The leg is complete mechanically and the test was quite promising, though the thigh probably needs a little beefing up. Additionally I have printed a test of the head for the sake of testing details. The goal is to have a full copy within 2 weeks

Looks fantastic so far!! Only criticism I can offer is that the head looks a tad squashed. if there's room in the vehicle mode, maybe stretch it a bit?

Yeah, problem is it already barely fits into the vehicle mode. I'll maybe try putting more joints in the neck but I don't know quite how to tackle it. The one thing I've learned with this project is animated designs are a never ending rabbit hole of chasing tweaks for accuracy. I'm sure you know exactly what I mean with dirt boss

Oh man, I totally get you. Dirt Boss is almost done but I'm still noticing proportional issues.

If you need to add neck joints to make it look taller, maybe something like Animated Swoop? I recall his neck double jointing to extend upwards quite a bit.

Scrapper is complete! Some minor mechanical and tolerance things to work out before I can make the files available, but I'm really happy with him. Now to make Mixmaster!

Friggin' superb. One of my favorite parts of Transformers collecting nowadays is seeing how talented some folks can be. I'm so glad 3D printers are enabling a new generation of makers to bring projects like this to life. I love how you embrace the medium in your designs to eliminate the need for paint.
