He can hold Targetmaster guns, or at least Kup's target master anyway.
The small parts of the G1 Hot Rod gun are too small and the large part too big. I did find a way he can hold it though. If you turn the arm to the side and plug it into the screw hole it kinda works. It looks like he is holding the gun farther down than he should, but with the longer rifle it works.
So this is the way I see most people transform it. It's also what the instructions say to do:
I found that the spoiler being that high looked a little ridiculous. I like the spoiler to be below head level.
This is the way I've been transforming it with the spoiler lowered and the shoulders lowered:
The key is lowering the shoulders so the spoiler can be seen.
Here's a comparison on the shoulder height:
Lowering the shoulders also removes some of the gap that is between the arm and the torso.
You know what, I pulled out my Almanac 2, and his shoulders really are lower set. Besides, now that I'm going back and fourth with the spoiler, I am seeing how the "instructions" way is silly. I'm thinking the way you have him transformed is how he should have been all along.
Received my Takara animated Rodimus in the mail this morning. Very nice figure; definitely not as purple as previous pictures made it out to be. I haven't been able to find the American release of the mold yet, so I'm glad to have pre-ordered the import version. Thanks to everyone who posted tips on the alternate transformation for the spoiler, and how to make it more visible when looking at the figure up front.
In a way, maybe the lower should transformation could be Hotrod while the higher with higher spoiler be Rodimus
I shaved some plastic from the hand so that it won't stress the plastic when he's holding the bow. It's a little bit more loose now but I'd much rather it be loose than the hand be broken.
thanks for this. my animated HotRod is awesomer now.
I forgot to mention that I take an extra step in the transformation by having his head face down in car mode.
Having his face upwards and visible through the windshield was driving me nuts.
What, you don't like the "Shh! I not robot, k?" look?
Nope! Hell, his face already makes him look like a dope as is.
Yeah, I always do that when possible. Drives me nuts when the robot head is awkwardly peeking through the windshield.
With the exception of RiD X-Brawn. The placement of his head in the driver's seat is obviously intentional, and amusing.
This is how mine was packaged. And since it works well, thats what I've been doing since. I'd rather see the back of a robot head than the face in alt mode.
i shaved some of the plastic on the bow handle instead of the hand. i did not care for that weapon before but it actually looks pretty cool when he's wielding it.
Turn the head around and tilt it down, too...
Just opened the Takara one I got. I really like it. I wish I found a Hasbro one before the Preorder came into BBTS.
Not sure if I like the shiny purple he is. Otherwise, he is great.
If anyone is on the fense about which version to buy PLEASE check the photos out first. I bought the japanese version and I'm really not fond of it. If anyone has the American and wants the Japanese, I'd be happy to trade. PM me!
why are you not a fan of the japanese one?
It's pretty purple. It might be someone's thing, but it's not mine. It's a real shame too, because the metallic nature of it is friggin gorgeous.
