FINAL UPDATE: PROJECT COMPLETED (full picture dump in the comments) Full files can be found here: Transformers Animated Powermaster Optimus Prime Armour After an unintended hiatus prime's engineering is finally complete, the joints are tight and the trailer is coloured. I'm actually really happy with how he has come out in the end. Unlike previous updates, Ill go through it in detail here in the main post. So, all of the colour accents on the figure are printed components. I cannot paint, and didn't want to have to learn a new skill before completing the project, though to be honest in the end I actually really like how the all plastic parts look. The arms, backpack and feet all peg together to form a full-size fire engine mode for prime Originally I wanted to keep as close to the source art as possible but the modifications that would have been done to the original voyager prime to facilitate the official trailer meant that changes were needed. There is now that box sticking out on the side, and the original cab rear wheels need to fold in to be replaced by the faux ones attached to the side of the truck. Given some changes needed making, I figured I would go a bit further and make some modifications to the wing's to clean them up and fold the wheels out of the way which I think significantly improves the look. The joints all use TPU (a flexible plastic) in order to maintain tension without wearing out over time. This is definitely the best thing I came up with during this project and will be using this trick in future projects Finally, I just quite like how he looks dwarfing sentinel prime. May adapt the armour to him one day, but I'm going to work on other projects first Thanks to everyone who has been following the project, my next one will be a 35cm tall entirely scratch figure, so keep your eyes peeled for that one Update 6: Fully transforming copy. After a couple more printing setbacks (I really need to stop giving time estimates) he is fully printed, assembled and most of all the armour is now transformable. I'm actually stoked about how he has come out, a few tweaks and some paint should hopeful have prime looking ace. Full update with more pics in the comments Update 5: Not quite a full update but I'm getting excited so wanted to share. Arms and legs have been printed in full colour now and only need minor paint additions. Wing pack should be complete this time tomorrow in the same state. Here he is right now. Update 4 :Some and design delays, but I now have most of the final parts printing with the hopes of having all parts printed and assembled (if unpainted) by Friday. For now, here is a render of the complete assembled trailer mode and the robot parts Update 3: finally a complete prototype with all parts fitted. Check the comments for a more detailed update Update 2: I've got a successful backpack mount designed, and the ladder and shoulder guns are now complete. Wings are currently reprinting overnight, tomorrow the first prototype will be complete Update 1: Quick update, he now has arms. More details in the comments So recently I have been thinking a lot about this un-produced animated power-master trailer from the all-spark almanac. I wanted to see if I could reproduce the design with only minimal modifications (as the voyager prime that would come with it would have been highly modified). This is where I'm at so far, I have completed the legs and their transformation to vehicle mode. I have also modelled and completed the engineering on the arms, and so am now just working on the wings and frame with the hoped of having this and my previous 2 projects all printed and painted by Christmas
That’s awesome! Amazing job! Great to see some animated love! Any plans on making this available anywhere like thingiverse or shapeways?
I just got a 3d printer and need projects to sink my teeth in! Wudnt it be cool if a bunch of us worked together to make an unproduced TFA line!?
This Looks great. Can't wait to see the finished thing. It's a pity we never got a proper toy out of this. It's kind of Galaxy Upgrade Animated Optimus Prime. But why Powermaster?
Thanks man, I hope to make the files available somehow if I complete it, and ideally I'd keep the partscount low enough that I can produce a copy or two if people really want That'd be really cool, and a huge undertaking. I want to meet the hero who reproduces marauder Megatron Not really sure, that's just what the design was called in the season 4 info we got. Also has a touch of the RID prime to it if you ask me
Oh yes. Hasbro should make a line like Studio Series for show characters who didn't get appropriate toys or a toy at all. Marauder Megatron would be so darn awesome. "Just take my Money". And I'm still wanting a TF Prime Airachnid with that spiderbot mode. No, I just made that up by the looks of it.
Looks great so far, can't wait to see how this progresses For the record (Since that image keeps popping up in reference to Powermaster Prime), that's a picture of Wingblade OP's vehicle mode, the PM version has a firetruck ladder
A quick update for anyone interested, I did a test print on the arms. The mounting mechanism works really well and the joints are sturdy with the exception of outwards shoulder. I also think that his arms are a good size for the style but just sitting too low. Basically I gotta work on the shoulders, but I'm almost done with the wing pack too (at least the first draft of it) so the goal is a complete first draft by next weekend.
Thanks man, that's high praise, but maybe save that for if I get the damn thing finished. I've purchased some PTU rubber filament. Tonight I will be printing the wings, and tomorrow the ladder and backpack and the PTU will be used to create tight joints that hopefully will not wear out as well as PLA normally does (inner shoulder, red of the elbow). An entirely finished prototype by Saturday night is possible. I'm also lowering the front bumper, thinning it out and adding a bit of hip skirt to bulk out the waist
Looking forward to seeing how this goes, one thing I noticed though is that the jet intake-ish detail you have added to the outside of the trailer is on the inside in the concept art. Did you do that on purpose or...?
