You know, the more I play with him, the more I think Optimus may be my favorite of the three that have shown up so far (Megatron, Starscream, Optimus). I still think Lockdown will end up being my favorite from the first wave, but we'll see.

 

This is my favorite for sure. I am getting th others but this thing rocks. Cant wait to get the Voyager.

 

the great thing abt the deluxe scale is the useable poseability. voyagers and above may have similar joints but the higher centre of gravity prevents them from pulling poses a deluxe would.

i just noticed that torso piece that slides the groin/leg assembly has springs, is there an automorph feature im missing here?

 

Huh. You're right. It's not a very tough spring. Maybe it's just there to put some tension on the legs in vehicle mode, to help the legs clip onto the tabs on the side?

 

The leader of the Autobot Forces, assigned to duties which require him to act as scientist, warrior and diplomat all on the same day. Long the voice for all that is good and benevolent in the Cybertron world. Optimus has returned once again!





Simple enough, Vehicle mode is a Cybertronian truck. No, wait- I mean "trukk!!!" Optimus is decked out in his trademark red & blue color pattern, in a somewhat new design.



Robot Mode, seen here enacting a battle sequence with the available Animated cast, is a pretty good Deluxe Autobot. The wheel-shoulders actually remind me of Prime's War Within incarnation. He has a mouth, as opposed to the traditional mouth-plate, which may enhance the hate-speakers' arguments against this line.

Articulation is very good, supported by flexible yet sturdy ball in socket joints. Optimus is armed with a unique battle-axe; and I consider this a welcome change after 24 years of blaster-gun varieties. He also has arm-mounted laser decals for those who prefer a heavily-armed Prime. Oh, and there's a shield.





While not quite as overwhelmingly cool as some of his previous incarnations, Animated Prime is nevertheless a very good toy. He's a suitable leader for the new wave of reluctant Autobots.

I modified Optimus's axe to be shorter and look more show accurate. It's basically just cutting the pole shorter and cutting a post to fit:




It still sits just fine in Vehicle mode, and it's easier to attach remove, since you don't have to fold it around the hands:




Also, still fully usable in all three axe modes:






I like it a lot better, and it'll probably look even more accurate in Voyager Op's hands.

 

i actually prefer the longer axe despite inaccuracy but that still looks good. didnt know abt the shield combining gimmick too, cool.

 

Well, to be fair, I was only inspired to do the project when my daughter somehow managed to snap the axe head off with the tab still inside it.   Since I was going to have to carve a new tab anyhow...
