I really look to Floro Dery for inspiration when I create artwork. He has an uncanny super-power to create really complex things and then reduce it down to something an animator can use. This is what the original Animalien looks like: http://www.seibertron.com/cartoons/image.php?image_id=19111 I wanted to go above and beyond what we had a chance to see when we were kids. Eventhough the name of this guy is pretty cheesey, I really liked the character. Plus it developed the Transformers storyline in the respect that the creators took the time to show other alien races that weren't necessarily robotic. This was my second true attempt at Z-Brush. My first attempt was also on an animalien that turned out like gutter trash. I basically created it from a Z-Sphere and failed terribly. In the version that you are currently viewing, I used General Onesimos head and took it from there inside of Z-Brush. Once I was pleased with my output Inside of Z-Brush, I exported it back into 3D Max where I built its Low-Poly counterpart as a cage around that model. (I learned that trick from the guys at Epic). The low-poly head is actually quite large in polycount, but I was imagining him as a boss where there would be only 2-3 of these guys in a scene at 1 time... as a boss/sub-boss character. When Texturing this guy, I used Sub-Surface Scattering, but I really felt that I wanted him to have unique skin... Almost as if metal was growing out of his organic flesh. I figged that would be a great story implementation to give these guys the ability to fight a TF with such courage.
