Yeah, I got halfway done inking it when I realized that Wizard Magazine did a similar bit about a step-by-step transforming costume pictorial some guy sent in. But the piano crate is all me, baby! Oh well. If you can't be origional, carry smoke grenades for distraction. Poof! -LB disapears in a cloud of logic
A quote (probably not exact, but it's a translation anyway) that I heard attributed to the creator of the Evangelion anime. "I'd rather make something derivative but good than something original but bad."
Huh. Actually, I'd have to disagree with that guy. I'd much rather do something origional but bad that derivative but good. Of course, that's why I make silly comic strips and he made the amazing Evangelion series. SMOKE GRENADE! *poof* -where'd LB go?
Whatever suits ya. He supposedly said that when someone accused his work on Evangelion of being derivative of the much older Densetsu Kyoshin Ideon series. The claims are pretty plausible, considering that Hideaki Anno is a huge fan of Yoshiyuki Tomino who created Ideon and the original Gundam. I think Evangelion is a fine example of something that's both derivative AND original. Many elements of the series, including several of the main philosophical issues and the idea of merging every individual into a sort of collective, do seem to be taken almost directly from Ideon. However, Evangelion seems to reach a different conclusion to the issues that are explored and handled the visual aspect of the show in a way that was wholly unique. For me the issue isn't originality vs quality. I'd rather ask "does it have merit?"
