Hey guys, I made a post in the movie forum about peoples thoughts on new characters created for the movie, instead of using old classic characters. I personally like the idea as it keeps the Transformers universe fresh. Here's an idea I had for a series. I'd like to see your thoughts on it: A Transformers series based on a cast of completely new characters, not based on anyone or anything from the history of transformers. In the series they would be Autobots fighting the Decepticons, just like any other Autobot, except they wouldn't be as high rank as Optimus or Ironhide etc. Optimus and Megatron and other well known characters could be mentioned, or appear as guest characters for one or two episodes. What do you guys think?
Yeah I like the idea of having a fresh series again. But to me, it should not have the Autobots or Decepticons. Even with new characters, it's not fresh. Pretty much every series had them, expect for a rare few. I think instead of going to the Maximals and Predacons, like the G1 universe did. Maybe two new factions in this one. Decepticons become Vehicons and Autobots become the Orbitals. Then have a Orbital commander team up with the retired Optimus Prime against Megatron one final time.
Believe it or not, a lot of people would like that. Don't expect it to actually happen, though. HasTak isn't gonna do a series without Optimus, Megatron, Starscream and Bumblebee anytime soon as they're the big moneymakers.
I think with all the classics 1.0,2.0 & generations toys comming out/came out. I think fans just want hasbro to go all the way & do a generation one styled retro cartoon, with new mold G-1 toys. If I had my input/way,I'd set the G-1 Retro cartoon around season 4/1987. this way well get a much broader cast of characters/toys. instead of just getting the diaclone/microman ark transformers.
I'd love to see a series with a new cast of characters. But they would have to be interesting characters you care about, unlike say the Unicron Trilogy.
I think you're on the right track, mate! However, I think you could flesh it out some more. For example... -What's the milieu? Earth? Cybertron? Somewhere different, something we've not seen before? Past, Present, Future? And does the milieu have any special influence on the alt-modes they'd have? -What are they fighting for? What's at stake? (the same-old same-old, or is there a new angle to their conflict?) -What are the heroes and villains doing separated from their main armies? Also, are you talking about separate armies entirely, or a smaller forces, like SpecialOps for either side? These are some basic questions that every writer has to address when crafting an idea, and tackling them can lead to some pretty cool places!
I reckon such ideas are better explored in comics. This was what Last Stand of the Wreckers and Maximum Dinobots were all about no?
sounds cool to me. i'd really like to see the transformers (autobots and decepticons) confronted with a threat to both of them that is either equal to or greater in power than themselves. maybe some sort of powerful alien race.....
