I can think of an abundance of transformers that could use modified leg extentions or " boots" to increase the height of what could have been a cool figure. I have messed around with some figures using little parts here and there, and just hte minor height extention, brings out an improved aesthetic. Here are some examples of some figures that deperately need leg extentions - Universe Galvatron -generations leo convoy / leo breaker - FOC Optimus - WOC Optimus - FOC Shockwave also I think generations springer and megatron ( chinese imports ) could use some clip-on leg pieces in order to relieve them of the "chicken" or "skeleton" legs. what does everyone think?
If a kit came out for them, I'd buy them and it in a flash. As it is, I don't have room for them in my life.
A few Radicons here on TFW do offer leg extensions on Shapeways for figures such as TFC Hercules. Generations/United Wheeljack and Tracks could use some longer thighs to stand in better height with tall molds like RTS/United Jazz. Speaking of stumpy, HA Soundwave could use some shoes or something too to boost his height. On a whim I even fan-moded United Frumble into "legs" for HA Soundwave and I actually got the whole combined thing to stand on its own but it ended up looking more than a little silly. XD
I'd be afraid of screwing up a transformation or alt mode with a leg extension. As it is, I've come to realize that most of what you see in a figure is there for a purpose.
Can't get down with leg extensions for the figures listed because they're proportionate. Leg extensions would give them more height, yea... but then you've got a bot with long legs and a small body and arms. But then, things like WFC Optimus and Leobreaker mold don't even need to be taller IMO. Overall, the smaller molds like Galvatron should have just been molded in a larger size class to begin with.
I'd rather have entirely new figures, especially for ones like Galvatron. Making longer legs isn't going to fix much. In some cases it'll probably look worse.
If you want FoC Shockwave to have better legs and you don't care about game accuracy, try Universe Cyclonus. The legs connect to the ball joints without any modding and they look great if you paint them to match the rest of the body.
Well I also wanted to add FOC ultra magnus to that list but I have to disagree with some posters sayign that the leg extention would make a figure look out of proportion. Half an inch makes all the difference sometimes especially with figures like Galvatron. I also like the idea of a " shoe" rather than an actual leg extention. The shoe can also serve as a drone or add-on weapon. Similar to the PCC . I did some experimenting with a leoprime ( cybertron lion mold) to give him "shoes" and it improved the figure like atleast by 25% .. looked alot more proportionate and aesthetically solid. I also like what headrobots did with the new " drone" robot and gave him better " feet" . I wish they would have given him better legs too like MaidenJapan was doing for a while with bludgeon.
Galvatron should have been a voyager size from the start. Not sure wtf they were thinking makin him a small deluxe/tall scout size.
By the way, thanks everyone for feedback. Its good to hear what others have to say even if they are not keen to the idea because it does give me a new perspective sometimes. I can agree that if things are done incorrectly, it can make a figure look pretty dumb. But, if thought is put in to the engineering of this concept, it could significantly improve the figures we already have and perhaps make us want to buy a figure from Hasbro just so we can get these improvements. Also, I firmly believe, that if there is a demand for such a product it can be made. If I had the skill, I'd do it myself. I can only design and draw.
