So Soundwave functions with the decepticons is communications right? and what does everyone use in todays world for communicating? a cell phone! how about a classics toy that has soundwave as an all touch screen cell phone and his minions can be micro sd cards that would pop out his chest and fit in a micro sd card clot on him. What do you guys think?

Maybe as a Device Label release, but not as a proper Classics toy.

I still like the concept drawing Sonicron was based off of.

If only Sonicron was executed better...

This, this, a thousand times this.

I passed on Sonicron at $20. That boggles my mind; he's a G1 Soundwave who fits cassettes, has a cassette alt-mode, and has modern articulation. But he's still so flawed that I couldn't pull the trigger.

... I bought the Cybertron Soundwave mold twice. TWICE. And that thing's a piece of garbage.

His cartoony fists, overly angled head, terrible legs that at best are unposable and at worst make him look like a knock-kneed schoolgirl that needs to go to the bathroom, alt-mode that looks like a folded over Soundwave, complete lack of a wing-transformation, and unnecessary Cyber Key Gimmick would like to have a word with your word.

... though I must admit, the colors on that version are awesome. And Laserbeak is just awesome.

The idea of Sonicron was great...I still really like Guido's design. I ignored all the telltale signs of disaster when prototype pics were posted but bought the damn thing anyway since I was so desperate for a Classics Soundwave. Utter regret. Then I bought Music Label and never looked back.

It's so rare that I find someone else who detests that mold as much as I do!

I think the movie line was onto something with the idea of making Soundwave a satellite.

I mean, the deluxe toy from ROTF doesn't really look good to me, but I think there's merit in the idea, at least.

I feel like classics is suppose to be a modern update for g1 characters so since a cell phone is todays communications device and they take memory cards i fell like that would be great idea for him

The Legends is actually a much better toy.

And I agree. Although there's the added hilarity that Soundwave, who explicitly has sonic-based attacks... is in space. Where those attacks are completely useless.

This is still my favorite idea - Generations Perceptor repainted/remolded into Soundwave. Absolutely perfect in both modes: G1-esque bot mode and a far more practical alt mode befitting of the character's name & purpose.

While that looks good, I have to oppose that. I really, really dislike the Generations Perceptor mold. That thing is such a pain in the ass to transform.

Yeah, the robot mode is very Soundwave-y, but the vehicle mode doesn't quite work as well for me.

The problem with Soundwave is the appeal of the original design, why we fell in love with him in the first place, which sadly fails to translate in a modern toyline because let's face it, kids just don't give a damn about tape recorders who launch little minions.

So you get over the years numerous homages and attempts at recapturing the look and feel of the character while still attempting to modernize it.

The first Soundwave who got a different mold was G2 Go-Bots Soundwave, a tiny little sports car... Most of us forget even existed. Then we have the un-released Laser Cycle that would have been released with LC Jazz.

Machine Wars came next with... A UK Psuedo-G2 mold or Pre-G2 mold with the name, which would see a re-release in different colors years later in the Universe line. An okish Soundwave, not iconic looking.

The next toy to use the name Soundwave had nothing to do with the original character, he was a leftover from Animorphs who turned into a bat from an alligator, a far cry from what we wanted in a Beast Wars version of Soundwave.

The name vanished for a time as Hasbro began to realize that fans wanted him done properly.

Enter Cybertron, which brought us our first new-mold Soundwave in a good ten years or close enough to it. The mold, has flaws, its poseability is hindered, its execution leaves much to be desired and Laserbeak makes a very unfortunate minion. About the only thing I find cool about this figure is that when his chest is open you can actually stick Classics Ravage in cassette mode sort of inside of him, can't close the door, but he still sits there as if he were being deployed.

After that we got either RotF Soundwave or Animated Soundwave... I forget who came first to be honest. Animated Soundwave is pretty darn impressive, for a styilized up-grade from the old tape deck form. And the minions are a huge upgrade from the old tape days.

RotF Soundwave is an interesting experiment in different alt modes with poor execution yet again, some of the measures taken to conform to the on-screen model render him utterly craptastic. I can't stand how weak his leg and foot joints get over time and his arms really don't look right in any decent pose. Thank Primus for Legends scaled figures.

DotM Soundwave... Does not exist for most of us unfortunate enough to be able to not afford him, unless you get the Legion version. Legion Soundwave looks ok, a decent upgrade from Legends Sattelitewave, although to be fair I think the satellite is a little better than the car. (Stability wise.)

WfC Soundwave is... Eh, I've got nothing against it, I don't think it works as a Voyager though, the Deluxe scale worked better with the transformation scheme chosen.

Prime Soundwave is great, a wonderful looking new take on the iconic character and out of all the different versions of Soundwave we've seen in the past few years I think his is a toy worthy of the name, right alongside Animated Soundwave.

For Classics though, I think a good middle ground between Animated and that unused min-van or whatever design would work pretty good for the new take on G1 Soundwave in Classics form. It ties in with his WfC design and if they engineered him the right way they could use either Classics Ravage or Generations WfC Soundwave's minions in his chest compartment.
