I was watching a clip of Superlink recently, where Snowstorm (Snow Cat) and Irontread (Demolisher) tried to powerlink.

And that got me thinking.... Snowstorm was a way better name than Snow Cat. In my opinion, anyway.

But Irontread has the opposite effect. I think Demolisher is a better name. I really liked hearing David Kaye's Megatron say Demolisher....

Also, I recently found out that the Omega Lock in Galaxy Force was called the Chip Square. Eh... At least it's catchy.

So, are there any other names people can think off?

There's always the Optimus - Convoy thing.

Gasket instead of Ransack, Dreadrock instead of Jetfire, etc etc.

There was quite a bit in Galaxy Force/Cybertron.

I use the American names almost exclusively. For instance, I always refer to a certain pair of characters from Masterforce as 'Darkwing and Dreadwind, Decepticon Powermasters' instead of 'Hydra and Buster, Destron Godmasters'. Go ahead, purists, make my day. :p

RiD and Car Robots had some switches.

Crosswise is far superior to X-Car though. On the other hand I think Wildride is better than X Brawn.

......in Animated is Optimus Prime called that in japan aswell? Rather than Convoy? The intro implies it.

With CR/RiD and GF/Cyb, I find most of where I'm either torn or swayed a bit towards the Japanese Counterparts. Aside from that, I see the bulk of the characters as Hasbro characters first, for pretty obvious reasons.

While I may prefer "Black Convoy" at times, Optimus Prime is never "Convoy" to me . . . .

Superquad, RID Scourge is always 'Black Convoy' to me. I always thought Scourge wasn't the right choice of name for him. Maybe if they'd called him 'Nemesis Prime'?

It's a funny thing when I think of Car Robots and RiD. I seem to prefer more of the RID names for the Autobots, but the Japanese names for the Preds and 'cons. I like 'Gigatron' as opposed to 'Megatron' as well.

It depends on the context. For AEC, I use the US names, since they're the same characters. For G1, I use the US names unless it's a completely different character. God Ginrai, for example. Go Shooter, Minerva, and Cab ARE NOT Siren, Nightbeat, and Hosehead. Buster and Hydra ARE NOT Darkwing and Dreadwind. I think most of the ones like that are in Masterforce, which coincidentally is my favorite season of G1 Transformers.

From Car Robot to Galaxy Force I am more familiar with Japanese names because I first (or only) watched them in Japanese. I don't particularly think either is better or anything.
G1 still confuses me a lot, but my favourite is Cosmos - Adams. Makes me very nostalgic everytime I hear the name Adams.

He will always be Optimus Pho-king Prime. Whenever I hear someone refer to him as convoy for the sake of appearing cool, I only think of a convoy of big biker guys driving 18-wheelers into the sunset. :D

I will refer to a character by its Japanese name if I have a more prominent character with the same name. For instance, I like the name "Noisemaze" more than Sideways, and despite the fact that he was comic relief in the cartoon, I think his design deserves to be something better. So in my fanon, he's a different character than Armada Sideways. I also have Cybertron Ransack and ROTF Ransack on the same shelf, so Cyb. Ransack gets to be "Gasket." I use a lot of the Japanese names for RiD characters just cos it makes them more unique. Fire Convoy and Gigatron, especially

I second that. All Hail Black Convoy-Sama!

Most of the names in Japanese series are in english, and in some cases they sound a looong way cooler!

Definitely with you on Gigatron. I tend to think of RiD Megatron and Galvatron as Gigatron and Devil Gigatron, although I like the rest of the US names.

The other series I'll pick a nameset and stick with them, generally it's US centric except for Galaxy Force. That's mostly because of how I got introduced to each series.

It's too bad we're not talking about the Omni productions dub of the G1 names like Metroplex=Phillip, Billy=Blaster, New Soundwave=Soundblaster

Cuz y'know, those are probably the worst of all :)

    ALL HAIL BLACK CONVOY-SAMA!

    Look what you've started N-B!

'Nods* Gigatron is just more of a unique name rather than smacking him with the usual 'Megatron' and 'Galvatron'.

And 'Sky-byte' and 'Gelshark' I do think of in equal capacities. He can be either to me.

I usually call RiD Optimus "Fire Convoy" to differentiate him from other Optimi.
