Hey @Pixelmaster, can you shed any light on the genesis of the P/CP mold? How did a mold that's so much higher quality than the other POTP deluxe molds and that doesn't fit into the combiner play pattern end up an Amazon exclusive both times in the States? Did it get developed for another line and get lost in some sort of shuffle?

 

He’s proof that POTP wasn’t CW 2.0 (remember, the original theme was powermasters with an imaginary power gain gimmick without combining aspect). Only reason he wasn’t binned is because the team liked the mold so much.

The other thing that really irks me here, is that the old Punch/Counterpunch was much better colors, much more accurate to any version of the character.
This one... it's almost like they were going for Nighbeat, then realized they were using Punch's mold and were just like "Oh shit... well... too late now"...

Well by the sounds of it, it was scrapped from the mainline so it was either amazon exclusive or nada. Atleast this way it's way easier to get than Walmart never having it show up for preorder online and spotty distribution at best in stores had it been apart of the headmasters line.

 

Roster wasn’t 100% changed, when they realize that they didn’t fully think through (the gimmick wasn’t exciting at all, just an armor piece with a plastic man stuck in the middle), they fell back and just said “let’s shove a combiner port onto some of the molds we were making”.

The blandness of the gimmick was also why the initial listings had a price hike, because at one point Hasbro thought “let’s give everyone a powermaster” and they realized that they had to increase the price to deal with the extra tooling. This was scrapped at the end, hence why the toys didn’t see a price increase.

The Blackwing people were CW jet retools because they were the closest thing that could combine. It’s pretty obvious it was ham fisted since the 2 jets combined was pretty clumsy.

Optimus, Roddy were picked instead of the Primes as leader class (TR sky shadow retool to save $$$) as they were big names.

Same thing with name recognition for Dinobots and Starscream. Elita 1 was a half assed retool and an excuse so she can finally get a toy.

 

After they changed direction it just didn’t fit the combining aspect of POTP

it was an attempt to be more comic accurate, but the final results are admittedly not great

 

Or it couldvd been apart of siege or earthrise like how @Pixelmaster said that most of siege were scrapped potp molds

While I do want that Barricade, I do not need another Punch/Counterpunch. Plus it is rumered that Barricade may show up in Netflix line up. I will Pass on this set.

 

Fuck yes. My old P/CP had a tab break that prevented the alt mode from being flush so getting a new one without crazy prices plus Barricade makes me happy

 

I think Nightbeat would have made more sense. When I first saw the thumbnail on my phone I did think it was a new Nightbeat, but didn't recognise the mold.

I think P/CP has ended up in this pack, as Hasbro wanted to release it again, but he's an Amazon exclusive. I think in some deals the company that Hasbro are dealing with reserve the right to release the mold again, take Aveo Swerve as an example.

 

To be fair being a half assed retool has pretty much become the defining thing for Elita's toys.

 

There’ll be a Barricade redeco in the third wave of WFC Trilogy Deluxes. Not sure if it’s the ER or Siege mold, but if it is ER, you could buy that instead.

 

I’d rather have had a Shattered Glass Prowl vs Punch set.
