Am I the only one not happy with the new designs in Bumblebee?

No, he wasn't. He was an asshole after TF1. He was vain, brutal, and used violence as the answer for everything. Which isn't bad, but it's not the character they're going for here. His design then fit his character then, as his design now fits his character now.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I like teddy-Bee, and he finally actually looks like a character who'd un-ironically accept being called "Bumblebee."

    What is being circled here?

I circled the parts that I didn’t think were cute (claw-like heels, generally just a lot of spikes, holes and exposed innards).

I don't completely have a problem with Knight-Bee, but much like the overall tone of the trailer/film itself, I do have to say that his design is very much a drastic reversal to Bay-Bee's visual design, in a way that is jarring to take in.

Putting the two side by side makes me think of that "careful who you make fun of in middle school" meme.

I enjoy the Ramjet/ Starscream design a lot.

As for Bumblebee, looks as if he and Sqweeks had a baby, which isn’t a good thing, since Sqweeks was ugly as shit.

I like the redesign. I think they were going for a hybrid of G1 and Bayverse. The design is more pudgy and friendly, very much like G1 Bee. But it's kept similar enough to the BayhemBee so people who know only Bayverse version can recognise the character.

It is unlikely you’re alone in this opinion, but it seems within the sample pool of TFW forums you’re in a minority. If you look at the YouTube comments on the trailer you may find a greater number that share your view.

Bumblebee was never cute in the bay movies. He was a slightly more endearing soldier. Bumblebee is supposed to be cute.

The antenaea are an interesting design choice, hopefully they use them with attitude expression even more than the original doorwings.

in some scenes it's more apparent than others, but I'd say it's more down to the CGI being unfinished than the design itself. I like a lot of the Bay designs, but I also like the kind of double nostalgia the designs in the trailer give from being a mix of Bayverse and classic designs.

Oddly, I think here he actually appears more obviously robotic, though clearly living, despite not having all the moving mechanical parts the Bay designs had.

haha I loved Sqweeks, I wish we'd had more of him than bloody Cogman

I liked Sqweeks too! I mean he looked ugly, but he was supposed to be messed up and damaged. It was neat how you can see most of the individual parts of the scooter on him, even though he doesn't transform. The only thing I thought was weird was the lack of proper hands. I can definitely see the Bumblebee comparison, but I actually think it's a good thing.

Not sure what you're talking about with being simplistic. They're both just as complex as they've always been. The only real difference is that Bumblebee is now a VW with much more rounder shapes than the sharp looking designs he had before.

That face is still as ugly as it ever was.

I wasn't really looking forward to a Bumblebee solo movie because for one the 2007 film basically already was a Bumblebee solo movie as the other Autobots were barely in it. Also because Transformers has always been an ensemble cast so making an entire movie around a single character just feels dumb. I have about as much interest in this as any of the Star Wars side movies. I might watch them at some point but I don't really feel the need to see them.

I do like that the designs are going to be at least a little bit more recognizable this time around. But I'm so burnt out on this overly complex transformation aesthetic that a side movie I was never going to see in the first place isn't really going to fix any of the issues I have with this franchise.

Bays bumblebee design was horrible for a lot of ppl, so they say. They couldnt make out what exactly they were looking at...

Travis' bumblebee takes elements from g1 and yet ppl still dog it...

Wtf to that. U just cant win whichever way u go.

Personally i would NOT want to see goofy blocky looking g1 tfs running around in live action but yet it seems thats what g1 peeps want... As charlie brown would say "good grief"

    I myself like both designs

Whats ironic is fans want change in the movies but yet cant accept change when its given.

The only thing I wish this design had is the upward facing door wings.

Other than that, I think he's spot on.

I like Bayverse bee (His design anyway, not his "personality") but I think this more solid, chunky design is definitely a large step in the right direction. It definitely helps him look friendly. I actually believed in Charlie's reaction being more of curiosity with this design. But if it had been the Bay design, her NOT reacting with sheer terror and screams would have been jarring to me.

I kind of wish he had the wings too, but I have a feeling we'll see more of them in the movie. If you look at the scene when he's running, you can see the wings unfolding on his back, so they're still there.

Yeah they're there just folded down like Hot Rod's. You can also see them when he's pushing the helicopter and on the poster. I guess it gives him more of a G1 silhouette.
