I did that with the classics 1.0 line, but luckily for me I was able to get then all MISB for like a buck or two over cost because I bought in bulk.
i do this too occasionally. i'll pass on a toy, then realize months later that i should have bought it. then i get stuck with a lame repaint.
I did it with most of the original classics & the RM Lio Convoys but I was able to pick them up for cost or less via trades or good deals
I have hemmed and hawed a lot on buying other toys, mainly since I wanted to check other sellers for cheaper prices. Occasionally wound up paying more when I couldn't find any cheaper options, and the original price of the first seller went up.
That is why my wife makes sure I have 1 of eash mold as they come out. So we don't have to pay after market prices........like the $170 she paid ofr Energon Omega Supreme.
I did that with Decepticharge and Swerve from the Alternators line. I passed on Swerve because he was another Corvette repaint and I already had two. Now I kinda want him. Decepticharge, I passed on because I didn't know if i wanted him. Saw them both in the stores once, and never saw them again. I still don't know if I want them for the "hey I have them" value, or the collector's value. Meh. Maybe a little of both.
Other than those two cases, I really can't think of any time I regretted not buying something. OH WAIT, reissue Sideswipe/Sunstreaker.
sometimes, you feel like an idiot for doing the opposite thing... it took 6 months for me to finally decide to complete the animated dinobots by picking up, finally, swoop and slag. i thought, 'better get them now than regret later for missing them'. i got them, and was happy... until 5 days later, when all the animated deluxes where on sale at 50% off. SHIZNIT!!! but oh well, the toys are still nice and so i've gotten over it after a day.
Yeah we have all done this from time to time... Just recently I decided I wanted Animated Blurr, Ultra Magnus, and Wreck-Gar after I saw images of Animated Hot Rod and Arcee. Just to have most of the original movie cast in Animated form. Now I just hope Hot Rod/Rodimus and Arcee are easy to aquire. I wasn't all that impressed with Ultra Magnus with pictures and seeing him in the box, but once released from his cardboard and plastic prison he is a damn nice figure. So far Ultra Magnus, Wreck-Gar, and Blurr look great together.
i kinda of do this too, although it doesnt take me that long. i first look at a figure and think i dont want.. maybe a day later, i feel like i should get it anyway.. and most often, its mine within a week
I don't often anymore, at least not with TFs (mainly I'm just in the habit of picking up anything that interests me, and anything that doesn't is rarely more appealing later for me. I did go pretty big time on Beast Wars though, mostly because by the time I got into the show and the characters, some of the 'heavy hitters' I wanted were already off the shelves (Waspinator and Tarantulus) and replaced by their respective repaints.
im guilty. one thing i learned if i have any interest in a figure i get it, or try to right away because after market prices can be a bitch. example, club seacons. i do love the colors and the mold, yes it was a bit expensive but i paid maybe 10 bucks less than the club from a board member. i knew to me it was worth 150 then, but i dont like it enough to almost pay 300 bucks which is what some ppl want now. worse comes to worse if you really dont like it then you yourself can sell it for after market value to get yourself something else. henkei wildrider, son of a bitch is expensive now!!!!!
I passed up a bunch of alts from Walmart including Ravage + Rumble. Those 2 in particular still hurt. They got down to like $6 - and I still was like "I'll get em next time". still hurts.
